The Savage Gardener #74

Here it is as promised...the SGer a day earlier. Anyhoo, we have another major
VOTE session for you (but it's not my doing), and also the year end songs of
'98 and things like that, AND...my one year anniversary of doing the Savage
Gardener is almost here (January 9th!)! Wow...an entire year! Also also, the
latest Fanzine has been released in Australia so it should reach the rest of
us in the next few days. I hear that the new single has already been recorded
and that we should expect the new album in the first 6 months of the upcoming
year!

**"Truly" made it as the #7 music video on VH1's year-end Top 50. Congrats,
guys!!

**But wait, there's more! Savage Garden's album is the #9 album of the year on
the Billboard charts!!

**The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 countdown aired the first half of the Top 98 of
98 this past weekend. "Moon" made it at #61 (not too shabby!) and "Truly" is
guaranteed to be there in the second half this weekend!

**"Tears of Pearls" will be released in the Netherlands in January!! Now
here's where I complain about every other country getting a new single except
the U.S.!! Thanks to [email protected] for the info!!

**Check this out...YM magazine named Darren and Daniel two of the 50 Most
Beautiful Guys on Earth!!!! How about that?!  Of course, we already knew that,
didn't we?? Is it just me, or do the people behind YM REALLY like Savage
Garden?! They've been in that magazine LOTS of times!

                                            Savage Trivia

Last week's trivia question was: This one is so easy, I'm ashamed! I'm running
low on trivia questions. Hey! It's not my fault! I've been doing this
newsletter for almost a year now! Anyhoo, when Daniel gets bored with someone,
he flicks them away like an insect. What's that nicknamed? The answer is the
Insect Theory. Short attention span, I guess! Congrats to those who got it
right!

This week's quessie is: What world-famous southern California attraction were
Darren and Daniel on their way back from when they heard "I Want You" on the
radio for the first time in the States?

Hey Lauren,

I just wanted to tell you that I loved the Ultimate SG Awards thing.  Are you
planning to do it again? Cuz I was thinking maybe you could do it once a month
(or two months since the Sger comes out once a week).  And if you can't think
of questions, I'm sure readers would be happy to help you make up the
questions a week or so before you're planning to have them if you ask (myself
included :-) .... Just an idea I'd thought I'd run by you... but let me know
what you think. Keep up the great work on
the SGer!! This was a great issue btw.

[email protected]

I would love to do it again, seeing as how many of you told me how much you
enjoyed it. The only problem is thinking of the questions! If I get enough
enough usable questions, I'll probably consider doing it again. Glad you liked
it! ~Lauren :o)

Hi Lauren,

In the last issue of the SGer (73rd)  a few people were talking about how like
Darren is to Bono of U2.  well, I think a few of their songs have a very U2
feel to them.  "Love Can Move You" is very like the sound of U2`s Joshua Tree
Album. I think it`s cool that Savage Garden can be so diverse with their
music. Has anyone else noticed this?

[email protected]

Well, the only U2 song I've ever recalled hearing is "With or Without You"
(which I love), so I'm not exactly the best judge. I have always recognized
the striking similarities between Bono's and Darren's hair though! But yeah,
SG's music is definitely diverse. You can't categorize it as pop or anything
else because it's so different. And that's one of the best things about their
music! ~Lauren :o)

**It's time to VOTE VOTE VOTE!!! MTV is having a Top 100 Total Request
Countdown, and since "Truly" is nominated, it's up to us to make it on the
countdown as high up as we can!! Go to

("Truly" is near the bottom) and make our boys #1 on the countdown!! The show
airs on December 31st, so you have a little over 5 days to VOTE VOTE VOTE!!

**Here's something I thought may be interesting to some people (hey, I got a
kick out of it!). In "Santa Monica", there are quiet, tinkling bells in the
background. They only play in the chorus (you know, "But on the telephone
line..."), but for some reason it just made me love the song even more.
Anyway, tell me I'm not imagining it!!

That's it for this week! A very major CONGRATULATIONS to Darren and Daniel for
all that they've achieved this past year, and best wishes for even more
success in 1999!! As for the rest of you, have a very Merry Christmas, and
I'll catch you next week on New Year's Eve!!

Peace, love, and Savage Garden!
