Let's take it from the beginning.Venom arrived at the airport at 23:55.When they saw their fans they took out their cams and started recording!!The funny(or should i say scary?) part about it was that the other people in the airport saw the cameramen that were waiting Venom and went over to see who was coming...well you can imagine their face when they saw Venom and all their fans!!
Venom were very excited when they arrived. They started shouting and generally making noise with their fans. Many fans gathered at the hotel to see them and of course Venom went to sign autographs and talk to them.Cronos was pissed off by the record companies that have Venom albums in the market but without permission.
Sunday morning(concert was satuarday night) they went to a Metal Era a record store to sign autographs. The most important thing about this is that they went there by their own will, and didn't do it because of money or because the record store told them or becuase of their fame as some dickheads say...
Take a look at the Live In Athens galleries 1 and 2 .
Below are 2 samples....
Venom got on stage on 23:30,that is 30 minutes late cause Virgin Steele took some more time, plus the stage needed to be fixed.Suddenly..."Ladies and gentlemen...from the very depths of hell...Venom..." said a voice that seemed as if it was buried deep in hell and explosions and pyrotechnics filled the air!YES!!It was Venom! The black metal kings were here!!When they finally got to the stage...
They started with "Seven Gates Of Hell"(A classic start in Venom concerts!)while there were explosions and pyrotechnics, fires(a classic Venom show i would say...).Hell opened its seven gates and its 3 most unholy and diabolical residents got out...
The 6000 fans went crazy...It was awesome. The stage was awesome too! There were ladders, and an awesome design behind Abaddon's drums,a dark figure with yellow eyes and burning.....Cronos was trully spectacular on stage,as he never stopped walking around, and was always cheering the crowd! Then they played "Die hard" and "Welcome to Hell",i don't need to say anything about these two. After that came the big surprise...everyone was eager to see how the new Venom songs sounded.
Well...the answer was given by "Flight of the Hydra",probably the fastest and most brutal song Venom ever wrote! This showed that VENOM REMAIN THE BLACK METAL GODS.Then came..."Countess Bathory"...I don't need to say anything about this either, the crowd was really wild when the first notes bulldozed from the speakers! When Countess Bathory was done Cronos started some solos with his bass, proving that you don't have to know music in order to be the best!If you really feel it and want it...
They continued with songs like "Buried Alive","In Nominae Satanas","Black Metal"(this is to show all you imitators who the Black Metal Kings and Fathers are!!),"Bloodlust",and some others From their new album Cast In Stone ,called "The Evil One",and then "Kings Of Evil" and "Gods Forsaken",which some people found kinda unusual for Venom.
They leave the stage but they come back to finish their show with "Witching Hour".Actualy they were to play "Gods of thunder"(by Kiss) and "In League With Satan".
As a conclusion i'd like to say that this was one of the best,if not the best, concerts in Greece,in the world and of Venom. They proved that they are still the best, and that their shows remain spectacular as ever, the inventors of Black Metal, the hierarchs of extreme metal despite the fact that they never had the "celebrity" attitude and never said that the world should thank them for that.As for the "true","dark","black" and "authentic",you'd better say your prayers...:the new Venom album is coming out soon, and then everything will be just the way it was before:VENOM ON THE BLACK METAL THRONE!!!HAIL LEGIONS!!
AND NOW TO THE CONCERT!!!!
