Damon Butler is that rare bird which they call a Los Angeles native. Born and raised in Carson, he was seized by the spirit of dance at a young age when he first attached bottle caps to his sneakers to create makeshift tap shoes. With his father's death at age 12, Damon took over as man of the house and performed to help support his family. His first professional job was singing with Mary Martin in the In Performance At The White House series. Commercials and print ads soon followed as did appearances on Star Search, The Gong Show, The Wayans Brothers and the drama, Fame. During EYC's hiatus, Damon danced in the video for Michael Jackson's "Remember The Time" and appeared in Gridlock'd with Tupac Shakur. Damon's musical inspirations rage from Johnny Gill to Sammy Davis Jr., but his all-time favorite performer is Whitney Houston. Mysterious and spiritual, Damon is the self-proclaimed "Dennis Rodman of Pop." He explains, "When you get EYC you get us - you get our hearts and our souls. Society sometimes categorizes you, but we're here to say 'no' to the stereotypes."
Damon, young, black and excruciatingly talented, was raised on the other side of the Los Angeles tracks and found the glitz and glamour of Hollywood at the young age of 12 when he was cast in his first national television commercial for Quaker Oats.
