Bring! The phone in the room
rang. Scott grabbed it with his left hand, while the right one was searching
for a TV remote. "Scott here."
"Hi, um... are you really
Scott?"
"Yup. I eat peas and I hate
most food. That's me."
"Scott, but I need your help.
Can you please come down to the lobby right now? It's emergency!"
"You'd better be serious,
girl. How do I know you're not some crazy fan who'll rip my clothes off
when I get there?"
"My words are all you can
depend on."
"You sound sincere. I'll be
there in a minute."
"Thank you."
Scott got up to his feet and
left to the elevator. Getting ready to be greeted by maybe a hundred females
out on the lobby. The elevator opened when he reached ground floor. No
screaming girls out there. He sighed for relief, but he was a bit disappointed
too.
Then a pretty brunette came
approach.
"Scott! I can't believe you
came!"
"Will I be sorry I did?"
"No, I will keep my promise.
I need to take you somewhere. Come with me?"
"Yes." he said, without thinking.
He was attracted with the figure before him, like he had seen her before
somewhere. And he was anxious of whatever that might happen to him.
They took the girl's white
corvette. She drove him to a cafe, where they later sat and talked.
"You are going to be a victim
of a voodoo ceremony." she said.
Scott was startled. "What
do you mean?"
"I'm serious. The ceremony
will be held next midnight, 24 hours from now."
"WHAT?! What have I done so
someone holds that big grudge on me?!"
"My friend's boyfriend got
jealous of you. You see, my friend sticked posters of you all over her
bedroom walls so everytime they make out in that room he couldn't concentrate."
"But... but I'm not the one
to take responsiblity!"
"Not only that, 3 months ago
she made a picture you and her together in a photo, when you guys came
here on your promo-tour, remember? Which, according to her boyfriend, was
an act of cheating."
"You have got to be kidding!
What an envious guy! It's only a picture for Christ's sake!"
"Anyway, she broke up with
him for being so obnoxious. But, as he was - and still - drinking, he was
going to take revenge by..."
"Killing me."
"No, by hurting you. I'm not
sure he's gonna murder you because I think he ain't that mean."
"Whatever. I'm not guilty."
"We know that. Me and my friend
know that. But what can we do? We can't tell him to stop, he's a psycho!"
"So you are telling me to
watch out."
"Yes. Watch out for anything
that might happen."
"Thank you. And how do I know
you're not joking?"
"Swear to God I'm not."
"I need another proof."
"What about this..."
She landed a fast kiss on
his lips, before rushing out to her car and left. Scott stood with a surprise.
He chased the girl but it was too late. She had gone and he didn't know
how to reach her.
"That is crazy!!!" Rich replied
to Scott's story the next morning. Then the whole bunch started to laugh.
"Guys..... I mean it! What
do I do now?" Scott begged. The others were creased up laughing.
"We know you're insane and
we are forced to put up with that," Abs said, looking serious. "Too bad
we didn't think of voodoo-ing you from the start!" he finished, bursting
into series of laughter.
"Nice talking to you!" Scott
bursted. He left the laughing bunch in his room. Seconds later, he received
a phonecall. It was the girl. Scott hurried downstairs and pushed a couple
of ladies on his way out. He called a cab and left to where the phonecall
came from.
"Hey! You're fast." she greeted.
"I know, and I'm surprised
you called."
"Um, his house is three houses
from here, to the left."
"I'll straight things up with
him, before he does things to me."
"That is, if you can find
him. He buys his stuffs in the morning, which means you'll have to wait
a little. But my suggestion is that you drop by to his house and burn every
voodoo thingie you find there, and run."
"That's not gonna stop him.
He'll make another voodoo dolls of me. Not that I believe in voodoo, but
the safe way is I have to talk him out. And one thing, if I come down to
his house and burn things down, I'll be living in the police precinct for
God knows how long. And, one thing for sure, he'll come after you if he
knows you're behind this. I can't endanger you."
"You're sweet. No wonder she's
crazy bout you."
"Your friend?"
"Yeah."
"Is she still... you know,
in love with me?"
"Hmm. Sort of. Hey, I haven't
have breakfast today. Join me?" As soon as Scott said yes, she brought
him inside.
"I still don't know your name."
"I'm Rice."
"Cute name, Rice. You still
go to school?"
"Yup. I'm only 18 you know.
Do I look old?"
"No, you look perfect."
She blushed.
They talked for an hour when
all the sudden she gasped. "He must be arriving any minute!"
"Then let's go out and say
hi." Scott said, trying to look not too worried.
"Oh.. I... I have something
to do, um, cleaning and stuff. You go by yourself, OK?"
"Yeah.... sure. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Go!"
Scott got out right in time
when a mini-pickup pulled off in front of the guy's house. A guy who looked
like he was Scott's age, got to the trunk and picked up some groceries.
"Good morning." Scott tried
his calmest expression.
"Yeah? What do you want?"
"I'm Scott Robinson. From
5ive..."
"F*ck! What are you doing
here? Get lost!"
"I'm just.... let me talk
here! I know about that voodoo thing in your house and I know you're going
to get my head! Listen, I didn't do anything! Lay off me!"
"Go to hell! You made my girlfriend
left me, you and your stupid songs!"
"Hey! I didn't do anything,
okay? It's not my fault she leaves, bottom line, you don't want to blame
yourself!"
The guy threw his fist to
Scott, who was un-guarded. They ended up wrestling and bleeding. By then,
Rice came out and parted them.
"Back off, Rice!" the guys
said, still hitting each other.
"Please! I'll do anything,
please, John! Let him go!"
Scott felt John's grip loosing.
"Anything?" he asked. "I want
you back again, Rice."
"What?!" Scott exclaimed.
"Rice?"
"No! Anything but THAT!! I
don't love you anymore, John!"
"Then this guy has to pay!"
John said, before hitting Scott's mouth hard. Scott coughed up blood.
"STOP!!! I'll do what you
say, just stop!" she screamed.
John threw Scott to the ground
and made his way to Rice. He was going to kiss her when suddenly Scott
came behind him and grasped his shoulder.
"Take this, punk!"
Scott gave him a big, fast
blow and knocked him un-conscious.
Rice cried and Scott cuddled
her in his arms.
"You are her, right? There
was no 'my friend' from the start."
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry,"
she said with a sob.
"That's not anyone's fault.
He messed up. You have to get out of this neighborhood! It's dangerous
for you to keep on staying here!"
"I don't live here," she explained.
"I borrowed my sister's house while she was staying in Australia for this
weekend. I.... I borrowed it so that I can spy over John's house."
"To SPY over his house? You
still care?"
"I was just wanting to make
sure he's alright!"
"Well, good thing you did.
Otherwise my voodoo doll would get stuck by needles."
"You think he'll try to do
it again?"
"Hey, the voodoo thing will
never work anyway! Come on, I don't believe such crap!"
"But you came all the way
here... for what?"
"I was curious...."
"About what?"
"About you."
Then he kissed her. They made
a plan for the evening and Scott left.
Later that night, they had
dinner at a nearby restaurant.
"So, when will you get back
to UK?"
"Next day after tomorrow."
"Really? We can't get too
close then."
"Yes, I'm sorry. But that's
part of the job. But will you write me?"
"Of course! We can still be
friends."
"Yeah. Uh? S... something
wrong with.... with my chest... It feels like.. stabbed...."
"What?! Oh my God! It must
be John! I'll.. I'll go to his house or.. or call the ambulance..."
She paused when Scott touched
her hand. Slowly a big grin was blooming on his face. She immediately realized
what was going on.
"Scott!! How could you! I
thought you were going to die!"
Scott laughed. "Sorry, for
a moment there I just wanted to test how much you cared for..."
He didn't finish his sentence
because a second later Rice grasped his collar. And kissed him.
