All right... this isn't really a 'zine (I don't think). I started Good Music Sucks mostly so I could arrogantly express my opinions on the music industry, but also to practice my writing skills and perhaps even get noticed and become a music reviewer in real life.
I also figured to give those that disagreed with me a chance to express themselves as well, so I made it an "open forum". That's right kids, if you disagree with me (or would just like to see your name on this site), write a semi-intelligent (not too biased, not too many "bad words") review of at least 50 words of any album and send it to me at [email protected] (please include as much info as you can about the release in case I'm not familiar with it), and I will post it... unedited (so watch your spelling!).
Although I buy lots of albums, I also download MP3s so I buy less albums that suck. If you've never heard of an artist, or are still unsure whether or not you'd like to buy an album (you don't trust my opinion?!), I'd suggest you do the same, since the format is a lot better than most "official" samplings, and often albums are leaked before release date. However, don't be a lamer, if you like an album, you better buy it =P. Seriously though, although I think the RIAA's attempts to stop pirated MP3s are foolish, the artists do still need our support (and that is why I buy albums with pride instead of just burning everything).

Musical Profile:
It's funny how much I developed musically in so little a
time. I have only been really heavily listening to music for about 2 years
now, and in that time I have watched my CD collection grow and grow. While
I started off with what I always had, the radio and rock... I slowly but surely
started to listen to hip-hop and rap as well. Although I still prefer to
place all artists under a generic label such as "rock", I see more
examples everyday of how my light, simple, depressing little rock and punk is
being taken over by killer evil hard rockers who care not about lyrics or
anything else so long as their amps are cranked to the max and they can get a
gigantic pit at their concerts. Artists such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Kid
Rock caused me to flee "modern rock" and go to new genres, such as
techno, and even the boy-bands and country artists I once despised so much
started to sound refreshing. What can I say? It's a new millennium... many
of the musical voices of "Generation Y" frighten this member of
"Generation X and a half"...
When writing reviews, I listen to the album while
multi-tasking (I am a student... I have many other things to do =)), then try
and pick out everything that I "notice" about the album. I
usually don't compare to the artist's previous work, even though I should.
I really have trouble finding reasons not to give all albums 4 stars (the reason
I don't is because I know that's not how a professional reviewer would write), so often
if I am having trouble with a review (happens almost every time... curse this
writer's block!), I will listen to an album again and only pay attention to the
things that are wrong with it so I have something to work with. I am
hoping that my reviewing and writing skills will strengthen over time due to
this project.
