-- The Backstreet Boys and Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts on Wednesday
(September 12) in Toronto, Ontario, and Raleigh, North Carolina, respectively, kicked off the newly
established Clearchannel.com Relief Fund, which will benefit the American Red Cross and appropriate New York and Washington, D.C., Police and Fire Department funds. The two
bands are the first of many to donate a minimum of $10,000 of each of their ticket sales to help victims
and families affected by the national tragedy. The fund was established by Clear Channel Worldwide.
People are encouraged to mail any size donation they can to: Clearchannel.com Relief Fund, P.O. Box
659512, San Antonio, Texas 78265, or log on to clearchannel.com for further information on how to
contribute.
Clear Channel Entertainment, the world's largest producer and marketer of live entertainment events, is
a subsidiary of Clear Channel Worldwide and the promoter for both the Backstreet Boys and Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts.
Clear Channel Worldwide issued a statement that reads: "We at Clear Channel Entertainment are
deeply saddened by Tuesday's tragedies that took place in New York, Boston, Pennsylvania, and
Washington D.C. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all Americans, especially to those who have lost
loved ones to these senseless acts of terror. Clear Channel Entertainment extends its heartfelt
commitment to the unity of our nation and is encouraging its employees and the public to participate in
any local relief blood drives or recovery efforts."
The company added: "Clear Channel is hoping to use music to begin the healing process and will look
to its other performances over the next several weeks to add to this relief fund."
The tragedy has hit close to home for the Backstreet Boys--a crew member for the Backstreet Boys
lost his life aboard one of the four planes hijacked by terrorists on Tuesday (September 11). The
Backstreet Boys are scheduled to play the Air Canada Centre tonight (September 14) for the last
performance of their three-night stand in Toronto.
