Backstreet's Howie D Goes Bilingual!

Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough is set to start work on a solo album that will include songs in both English and Spanish. He tells Billboard that during the Backstreet Boys' current break, he decided to shop some of his songs -- he has had tunes cut by Mandy Moore and K-Ci & JoJo, among others -- and those discussions led to his own project.

"It will be a Latin-influenced album," Dorough says, "but it will have an international feel so it's not just caught in South America. I never want to neglect the fans in Japan, Europe, Canada, or America." He expects producers to possibly include Emilio Estefan, Rudy Perez, and Steven Morales.

Though details haven't been finalized, Dorough says the project will most likely be a joint venture between BMG Latin and Jive.

In late March, the Backstreet Boys announced they were opting not to begin work on a new studio album in favor of pursuing "individual endeavors." Dorough told Billboard at the time that he had written 12 songs on his own and another 15 with the other members of the group.

Dorough will be the second Backstreet Boy to release a solo album; Nick Carter's "Now or Never" was issued last year by Jive.
