Drew Carey has a white-collar job as the assistant director of personnel at a Cleveland department store. It's not a dream job, but he does the best he can and always manages to keep his sense of humor. Katy Selverstone's previous claim to fame was starring in a series of MCI commercials.
1st Season 1995 1. "Pilot" September 13th, 1995 Drew is reluctant to hire his friend Kate for a position at the cosmetics counter until he meets Mimi Bobeck, a hostile applicant with horrible makeup and an even worse attitude. Now, hiring Kate takes a back seat to his latest problem. 2. "Miss Right" September 20th, 1995 When Drew interviews an attractive woman, Lisa, for a job at the department store, he's quickly convinced she's the "perfect" woman for him. One problem: she's obviously the best candidate, but company policy prohibits employees from dating. 3. "The Joining of Two Unlikely Elements is a Mixture" September 27th, 1995 Kate gets depressed after all of her friends are getting married, so they throw a fake wedding for her and Drew. 4. "Nature Abhors a Vacuum" October 4th, 1995

When Drew fires a woman who's been sleeping with Mr. Bell, Mr. Bell tries to get Kate to sleep with him. Of course, Drew gets caught up in the middle of all this. 5. "No Two Things in Nature are Exactly Alike" October 18th, 1995 Drew's attempt at interoffice humor backfires when a tasteless cartoon he distributes offends an employee. Meanwhile, Kate needs Drew's help to finalize her break-up with Barry, her obsessive ex-boyfriend. 6. "Drew Meets Lawyers" November 1st, 1995 When the department store attorneys suggest that he settle his lawsuit out of court, Drew decides to hire his own lawyer. However, after a fruitless search for an honest, affordable lawyer, Drew resorts to representing himself. 7. "Drew in Court" November 8th, 1995 Drew defends himself against charges that his cartoon created a hostile workplace. NOTE: Mr. Shultz. Get it? 8. "Lewis' Sister" November 15th, 1995 Lewis' newly divorced sister Janet returns to Cleveland with her ten-year-old daughter Monica, and the pair take an instant liking to Drew. When Drew tells Lewis the woman is coming on too strong, it causes a rift between the two friends. NOTE: This episode ended with Drew driving Lisa home listening to "I Saw Her Standing There," shameless self-promotion by ABC for the Beatles Anthology which aired the following week. The rerun of this episode, did not feature this shameless self-promotion. 9. "Drew and Mrs. Louder" November 29th, 1995 The elderly widow of the store's founder offers Drew a job as her assistant. Drew thinks he's on a "shortcut up the corporate ladder," but his new position soon turns compromising. < 10. "Science Names Suck" December 6th, 1995 When Drew and the guys start hanging around with an old school pal, Jay, Kate takes an immediate dislike to him. Drew's birthday party is jeopardized by Kate's feud, but she ultimately provides a very special visit from his idol. 11. "The Electron Doesn't Fall Far from the Tree" December 13th, 1995 Drew's dad pays a visit and pressures him to join his lodge, the Wildebeests, so he can make new business connections. But Drew's not too wild about joining, especially after learning that most of the members are bigots. 12. "Isomers Have Distinct Characteristics" December 20th, 1995 When the department store employees go on strike at the height of the holiday shopping season, Drew, Mimi and Oswald are forced into duty on the sales floor. And with Kate also walking the picket line, her friendship with Drew is strained. 13. "Drew and the Unstable Element" January 3rd, 1996 After Drew mistakenly hires a criminally insane employee (by misreading the man's psychological profile), he has to figure out a way to fire him without creating any bad blood-- or losing any blood. 14. "Drew and Mr. Bell's Nephew" January 10th, 1996 Mr. Bell's nephew shows his true colors while training with Drew. 15. "There is No Scientific Name for a Show About God" January 17th, 1996 When Drew is mistakenly believed to have been killed in a car accident, he ponders his life's purpose and considers a priestly profession. 16. "Drew's New Assistant" January 31st, 1996 Drew is excited when Mr. Bell gives him a personal secretary, that is, until he finds out that it is Mimi. Drew starts to get scared when he thinks that Mimi may like him more than he thinks. 17. "The Front" February 7th, 1996 The Winfered Lauder Department Store forbids office dating. This causes a problem for Drew and Lisa, who ask Kate and Jay to go with them on their dates so that no one will think that they are together. Meanwhile, Oswald and Lewis take "smart pills." 18. "Playing a Unified Field" February 14th, 1996 When Lisa decides to date other people, Drew rushes to date his barber, who is a real wild one. NOTE: Jack Armstrong is listed in TV Guide. Is he actually in the episode? 19. "Atomic Cat Fight" February 21st, 1996 Drew is faced with a dilemma when hiring for a new job position: hire Lisa, and then they can start seeing each other; hire Kate, his best friend who has been waiting for this position; or hire Mimi and get lots of support from his boss. 20. "Drew and Kate and Kate's Mom" February 27th, 1996 Kate's mother visits, and is immediatly dissatisfied with Kate's boyfriend, Jay. She gets Drew to break them up. When Kate gets angry at her mother, her mother tells Kate that Drew is the right boyfriend for her. NOTE: Susan St. James is Christa Miller's aunt. 21. "Drew Gets Motivated" May 1st, 1996 When Winfered Lauder hits a slump, Drew comes up with the idea of having animal mascots to help get more business. This gets him promoted to a new job, where he gets to come up with great new ideas every week. Needless to say, he is not happy. 22. "Buzz Beer" May 8th, 1996 Drew comes up with the idea of making his own "Buzz Beer" when Winfered Lauder is bought by the Dutch. Everyone ends up keeping their jobs except for Mr. Bell, who we get to see for the first time. 2nd Season 1996 23. "We'll Remember Always, Evaluation Day" September 18th, 1996 Drew frets over Lisa's performance evaluation. NOTE: This episode features the premiere of the production number "5:00 World." The song was recorded by The Vogues in 1965 and can be found on the Good Morning Vietnam soundtrack. There is also an excellent cover on Julian Cope's album My Nation Underground. The video was reedited to become the title sequence for most of the second season. 24. "Something Wick This Way Comes" September 25th, 1996 Drew's new boss makes him the fall guy for new cost-cutting measures. 25. "Break it Up, Break it Up" October 2nd, 1996 Lisa moves in with Drew. Jay considers moving to Minnesota. 26. "The Bully You Know" October 16th, 1996 Mimi is banished to the basement. Drew hires her replacement, a bully from high school. 27. "The Devil, You Say" October 30th, 1996 Kate dates a man who thinks he's the devil. 28. "The Day the Music Died" November 6th, 1996 The death of Drew's high school band teacher affects him worse than expected. 29. "What the Zoning Inspector Saw" November 13th, 1996 Drew's new girlfriend is a zoning inspector who might close down his brewery in the garage. 30. "Drew's the Other Man (a.k.a. Drew's the Other Guy)" November 20th, 1996 Drew's discovers that Bonnie is married. Oswald finds a new friend at work. 31. "Mimi's Day Parade" November 27th, 1996 Drew's in charge of the Thanksgiving Day parade, but it won't go on if Mimi isn't on the head float. 32. "It's Your Party and I'll Crash If I Want To" December 4th, 1996 A new salesman throws a party without inviting Drew and Mimi. NOTE: John Caponera and Monty Hoffman also worked with Drew Carey in a previous series called The Good Life. 33. "Lisa Gets Married" December 18th, 1996 Lisa's getting married, but not to Drew. Oswald and Lewis get jobs as Christmas elves. 34. "They're Back" January 8th, 1997 Drew's parents lose their life's savings and move in with Drew. 35. "Hello/Goodbye" January 15th, 1997 Drew moves in with Oswald and Lewis and gets them evicted. Lewis dates a woman who thinks he has money. 36. "Drewstock" January 29th, 1997 To celebrate the end of Buzz Beer, Drew throws a party for a thousand of his closest friends. 37. "Drew Blows His Promotion" February 5th, 1997 Drew will get promoted if he updates the company's training films. Unfortunately Kate, Lewis and Oswald have begun a campaign of practical jokes for Drew's birthday. 38. "Check Out Drew's Old Flame" February 12th, 1997 Drew meets a woman owes him money. But when he recognizes her from junior high school, he invites her to stay at his house. 39. "See Drew Run" February 19th, 1997 Drew goes on a hunger strike to protest a dangerous intersection outside the store. 40. "Drew Gets Married" February 26th, 1997 A woman Drew meets in Las Vegas tricks him into marriage so she can retain custody of her children. NOTE: As part of ABC's Viva Las Vegas night, characters from the four shows airing this evening met each other in Las Vegas. In Grace Under Fire Grace becomes Drew's good luck charm at the craps table. In Coach, Mimi and Luther bid against each other for Elvis memorabilia. In The Drew Carey Show, Luther becomes Drew's bad luck charm at the craps table. In Ellen a dazed Spence asks Drew for help finding Caesar. 41. "Man's Best Same Sex Companion" March 5th, 1997 Drew can't afford hip surgery for his dog so he pretends to be gay to get same-sex health benefits. 42. "Two Drews and the Queen of Poland Walk into a Bar" March 19th, 1997 Mimi prepares to meet the King of Poland with hopes of becoming queen. The man who tried to kill Drew is released from prison and devotes his life to becoming just like Drew. NOTE: The Polish-American community wasn't amused by the episode. So if you have it on tape, keep it. When the episode is reshown again, all references to Poland will be removed. Also it will no longer be mentioned that Mimi is of Polish heritage. More details are available at this web site dedicated to the Polish-American community. 43. "Cap-Beer-Cino" April 2nd, 1997 There's a new beer in town and it tastes just like Buzz Beer. 44. "Drew vs. Mimi, Part II" April 30th, 1997 When a cushy job on the board of directors opens up, Drew, Mimi and Larry do their best to suck up to Mrs. Louder and Nigel Wick. 45. "Win a Date with Kate" May 7th, 1997 Mr. Wick wins a date with Kate in the "win a date with Kate" Buzz Beer promotion. NOTE: Portions of this episode were filmed in 3-D. 46. "New York and Queens" May 14th, 1997 Drew feels life is passing him by, so he takes a day trip to New York City. NOTE: This episode ends with a production number featuring "Let's Do the Time Warp Again" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and "Shake Your Groove Thing" from The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Nicholas Turturro reprises his role from NYPD Blue. 3rd Season 1997 47. "Drew vs. Billboard" Septmeber 23rd, 1997 Drew is tricked in to appearing shirtless to promote a diet pill. Lewis thinks his head is getting bigger. 48. "Drew and the Singles Union" (466251) Septmeber 24th, 1997 Tired of being left out of perks given to married people, Drew forms a singles union. 49. "Strange Bedfellows" (466253) October 1st, 1997 Drew tries to be more assertive, but it gets Larry fired. NOTE: This episode featured the opening number "Cleveland Rocks" performed by The Presidents of the United States of America. 50. "Misery Loves Mimi" (466254) October 8th, 1997 Mr. Wick hasn't been seen for weeks, but still manages to fire Drew. Kate and Oswald reveal their secret. 51. "A Very, Very, Very Fine House" (466255) October 15th, 1997 Drew's house is auctioned after Larry is convicted of selling drugs from the house. 52. "Drew vs. the Pig" (466259) October 29th, 1997 Drew tries to lose weight to impress Nicki and to win a bet with Mimi. 53. "Batmobile" (466257) November 5th, 1997 Drew wins the Batmobile. 54. "The Dog and Pony Show" (466258) November 12th, 1997 Drew accidently neuters Mrs. Louder's dog, so he turns to stripping for money a la The Full Monty. NOTE: According to a viewer, if you take a close look the original Full Monty dancers from the film appear in the crowd scenes during the strip at the Warsaw and when Drew goes into the audience to apologize to them for them having to look at his butt. 55. "Drew's Brother" (466261) November 19th, 1997 Drew's older brother comes for a visit and reveals a secret: he's a transvestite. 56. "That Thing You Don't" (466256) November 26th, 1997 Drew's band enters a battle of the bands contest. But Kate's the lead singer and she can't sing. 57. "Volunteer" (466260) December 3rd, 1997 Drew volunteers at a retirement home, but is accused of mistreating the residents. 58. "The Wedding Dress" (466275) May 13th, 1998 Drew and Oswald each buy Kate a wedding dress. 74. "My Best Friend's Wedding" (466276) May 20th, 1998 Kate wants to back out of the wedding but has trouble-telling Oswald.
