What the #@$% is a script?
Well, this question is really simple to answer. A script is really nothing more than a customized version of mIRC. That's all it is is someone esle's customized version of mIRC. Really!! That's all it is. Pretty simple eh? So does that mean you could add a couple pop ups on there and call it a script? Sure!! however, you won't be viewed as a very good scripter, and most scripters will just laugh thier @$$ off at you. It doesn't take much to use a script, and there are a million on the net to search from. They really make mIRC a lot more fun (or annoying, depending).
How do I install this thing?
Well, itz generally a good idea to keep your downloaded verson of mIRC somewhere so that you can reinstall it at will. (I keep mine on my desktop) To install a script, generally all you need to do is unzip the file into your mIRC directory and replace all the files it asks. This is usually your script.ini, popups.ini, and aliases.ini. The script should always come with a text file to explain it as well.
Another way you could load a script is to unzip it into itz own directory, and just add the mirc.exe file. This way, however, you have to create your custom task bar, ect. I don't think itz easier, but this way you can have several scripts on your system.
That's it?
Yep, that's all there is to it!! enjoy your script (if you get one). Don't be fooled by the file size of a script!! There are some good scripts that aren't big. Don't try to use a complicated script right away, cuz that takes away all the fun of the reason mIRC came about. Chatting!! Scripts are fun, but if you use them to be a real tool, then no one is gonna like you, and you will probably get nuked or something. So, be kewl with em!!!
