Painted People Part One - The CarnyxLong before the Scots came from Ireland - The Picts dwelt in this land of heroes. This is one of The Six Trials of The Sinneballachan.Track Time - 29.36 - UK CD Price - £15.00 + 1.00 P&P I have always liked the first segments of this piece. I attempted to re-create the sound of The Carnyx - The Pictish War Horn, which was reputed to be about thirty feet high, held by ropes each side, and Side-blown by a third Pict. The top of the horn where the long deep note sound came from was usually a Dragon or Kelpie's head. The objective was to produce fear in their enemies. The Picts went to war, both men and women, naked and their bodies painted or tattooed with fearsome designs. The Romans were never able to conquer them. Their best shot was to build Adrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall in an attempt to contain them.As an aside, Carnyx is the name o' ma baun' |
