**NEWSFLASH** Sources have revealed that Bad Religion will no longer be headlining the Vans Warped Tour in January. Initial rumours had suggested that the band had broken up, but it has since been revealed that Jay has some family matters to attend to. Also, it seems as though the Specials might not make it out for next years Warped either, which, along with Bad Religion will leave a big gap in the line-up, with the rumoured possibility of either NoFx or Suicidal Tendancies. ----------------------------------------- Over the coming months, Aussie punters are gonna have to start harvesting their orchards of money trees, and get ready for the wildest festival season yet. BIG DAY OUT - When you mention the words "Music Festival", the first thing most Aussie punters would think of, is the now legendary Big Day Out. After six tumultuous years as Australia's premier alternative event, the Big Day Out phenomenon came to an end after the 1997 event, with organisers Ken West and Vivien Lees claiming that it had become so huge it was just too much to handle. 1999 sees the triumphant return of everyones favourite rock event, and what a ripper it looks set to be. After months of speculation as to the headliners of the event, with names such as Hole, Sepultura, U2 and R.E.M being bandied about, it was finally announced that the two headlining acts were to be The Beastie Boys and PJ Harvey. Just as this awesome news had sunk in to the minds of every punter in the country, the word came that both acts had cancelled, with the B-Boys opting to undertake a tour of their own in early 1999. Only weeks before the tickets were to go on sale, the first batch or proper announcements were made, with Marilyn Manson, KoRn, Rammstien, DJ Punk-Roc, Manic Street Preachers, Sean Lennon, FatBoy Slim plus Australian acts Regurgitator, the Superjesus and the Living End, all making appearences, along with many more. Whatever the final acts are, everyone should know that this will be one of the best shows of 1999, and anyone that ever went to a Big Day Out would know what I mean, but due to the enourmous ticket sales so far, it's quite obvious everyone does!! THE VANS WARPED TOUR - After its successful Australian debut last summer, the US-punk touring sideshow, The Warped Tour, returns for round two of the biggest day of punk mayhem of the year! Headlining this years Australian leg are the "punk band of all punk bands", Bad Religion, as well as the Deftones, MxPx, Grinspoon and more, including the return of one of the best acts of last years bill, Pennywise. The tour encompasses numerous shows right up and down the east coast (including a few shows in country regions of Victoria and New South Wales) as well as trekking to Adelaide and Perth. Just like the Big Day Out, the Warped tour looks set to be bigger and better than ever before, and it's only the second time!! SURF/SKATE/SLAM FESTIVAL - Originally a day-long festival held in Sydney, the Surf/Skate/Slam festival is doing a 'bit of a Homebake', by deciding to hold a few shows in the other eastern states. (In the meantime, Homebake has gone back to one show only and this year is being held at the Domain in Sydney. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

Following the tradition, and success, of the Falls Festival (originally called Rock Above The Falls), many states are holding huge festivals in the country regions, and pulling in some big names. As well as the return of the Falls Festival, still the best in the minds of many, are a number of shows around the country, including the Meredith Festival and Bay Fest' 98 at Batemans Bay in southern NSW. Also, a new show has cropped up which seems to be attempting almost the exact same idea as the Falls Festival, only this time its in NSW rather than in south-western Victoria. |
