Picking my best songs of all-time happened to be a difficult task. My first go at it resulted in the next list:
Summer in the city - Lovin' Spoonful, 1966 Fool on the hill - The Beatles, 1967 It's all over now - The Rolling Stones, 1964 Boom boom - John Lee Hooker, 1961 Itchycoo Park - The Small Faces, 1967 The beat goes on - Sonny & Cher The happening - The Supremes, 1967 Who'll stop the rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival, 1970 You really got me - The Kinks, 1964 Little sister - Elvis Presley, 1962
Two days later I wrote down the following list (without having consulted the previous one):
Lazy Sunday - The Small Faces, 1968 bad moon rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival, 1969 Great balls of fire - Jerry Lee Lewis, 1957 Georgia on my mind - Ray Charles, 1960 The letter - The Box Tops, 1967 I'd rather go blind - Chicken Shack, 1969 Mr. Tambourine Man - The Byrds, 1965 Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles, 1966 My generation - The Who, 1965 I never loved a man - Aretha Franklin, 1966
When I visited in bar a week later I heard a great song. I wrote down this top-10 on a piece of paper:
All I have to do is dream - The Everly Brothers, 1958 Baby what you want me to do - Jimmy Reed, 1960 Be-bop-a-lula - Gene Vincent, 1956 No particular place to go - Chuck Berry, 1961 It's a beautiful day today - Moby Grape, 1967 Son of a preacher man - Dusty Springfield, 1968 All along the watchtower - Jimi Hendrix, 1967 Last train to Clarkesville - The Monkees, 1966 Here comes the night- Them, 1966 Venus - Shocking Blue, 1969
And the next ten also sound reasonable to me:
Help me - Sonny Boy Williamson, 1953 Stormy Monday - T-Bone Walker, 1946 Spoonful - Howlin' Wolf, 1952 Dust my broom - Elmore James, 1952 My baby - Little Walter, 1959 So many roads - Otis Rush, 1958 My time after a while - Buddy Guy, 1961 Hoochie coochie man - Muddy Waters, 1956 As the years go pasing by - Albert King, 1962 Wang dang doodle - Koko Taylor, 1963
All American, all black, all BLUES.
