Battery 9 Homesite

It is with this frame of mind that I bring you a band that is riding on the knife edge. Their third album has taken a new and totally different tack to what has gone before. They have brought forth the sacred cow of musical creativity and sacrificed it on a higher altar. Why, you ask, do I say that? Simple. What kind of band releases a special edition double CD with only 33 minutes of music - one CD having 6 and a half minutes? What other band would dare?

< index

This is the here and now of where its at. We are seeing great things happening in the world of global communications, and the world is changing so fast that even those riding the crest of the wave are finding themselves in danger of being left high and dry. Whither the WWW? For that matter, whither atrophy? Todays state-of the-art is tomorrows clich. We live in an era of baby boom obsolescence.

Updates

15/10/98 Well, it's been a busy few days, so my apologies for the delay in updating. Last weekend was a heck of a party, what with the gig at the Purple Turtle on Friday, the Cape Summer Rock Festival on Saturday, then the after party on Suturday night. I will be adding some major changes to this site in the next little while, including updated Band Info and Events sections. I also have some new material ... images never before released on the internet, and an exclusive interview with Paul and At. Stay in touch!

05/10/98 Aaarrrgghh!!! Sorry, I made a mistake! The gigs in Cape Town will be the following:
Friday 9th October 1998 at the Purple Turtle. Cover charge is R20. I don't know if there is a supporting act at all.
Saturday 10th October at Gardens Cape Tech rugby field. Cover charge there is R45, and you get 6 bands for your money - Battery 9, Boo!, The Led, Springbok Nude Girls, Blunt and Coverfields. I don't know specific times, but I guess it might be a good idea to be there fairly early. Apparently there are only tickets available through TicketWeb or by phoning 086-000-8932. See you there!

24/09/98 The two Cape Town gigs are going to be at the Purple Turtle on Friday 9th October, and the Gardens School rugby field on Saturday 10th October. See you there!

18/09/98 OK, it's official. The two gigs are going to be the following:- Friday the 9th of October at the Purple Turtle, and Saturday the 10th at "The Cape Summer Rock Festival" in Cape Town. At this stage I don't know if the two sets are going to be different, hopefully I'll be able to find out from Paul before the time. In my capacity as semi-official traffic sign organiser, I've already got the next one lined up! And Wrok will be released on the 17th October 1998.

09/09/98 NEWSFLASH! Battery 9 will be in Cape Town the weekend of the 9th and 10th of October. I'm still waiting for Paul to give me times and places for the gigs, but they'll be posted the second I know them. Also, there is some news of the next album. It's official, the name will be "Wrok" and it is due to be released on the following weekend after their trip down here. Keep in touch to know more details.

01/09/98 Paul sent me the official lyrics for the first three albums! They have been added on a page of their own. They are complete with translations of the Afrikaans. They do need a little bit of organisation, which will be done in a day or so.

27/08/98 I have finally moved the Webrings off the index page, so it loads up much quicker. Paul has emailed me all the lyrics for all three albums, as well as the translations for the Afrikaans ones - thanks Paul!! I hope to get that, and the LONG overdue River Club update and feedback up within a day or two.

12/08/98 Another award. I still need to do the report on the River Club gig. That will follow soon, I promise.

10/08/98 Added some more links, added a link to my (poor) effort of musical composition in the Sound section, and generally jacked the whole section up, including adding the second CD from Gris to the list.

04/08/98 The Awards section has now got so big (9 of them) that I've created a new page and moved them all to it. It's here.

31/07/98 Battery 9 was here in Cape Town!! What a party! The River Club was the place, the atmosphere was great, and I'm still stiff ... There will be an update really soon.

Added the Links page. Now there is a series of ways out of here ... more to come later.

20/07/98 Busy, as ever ... another award ... the Eghad! Award c/o Minotaur. I've been compiling a list of email addresses for the people who have SA sites. This will be used for the SA Music Webring. What else? Oh, yeah, the next BIG happening in SA music is Oppikoppi - 7th to 10th August. I'll be there ... will you?

12/07/98 A busy week. I have joined several new webrings, but right now I'm waiting for the acknowledgements and approvals to come through on a couple of them. Also, I started the South African Music Webring and have set up the home page for it http://listen.to/SouthAfricanMusic. This site is the first member site of the new ring. The Official Site, as well as the other two unofficial ones, are first on the list for the new Webring as well.
News: - Battery 9 will be at the Oppikoppi festival next month in the Transvaal. I'm going to try and make a plan to get up there. It's the first weekend of the month, a long weekend, so see you there!
More news: - Apparently Paul is nearing completion of the new album. It has a new flavour, and has gone in a new direction. It might even be finished by next month, but we will almost definitely be hearing new material at Oppikoppi.

06/07/98 Added the code and images for the missing three awards. They are the Cool Reality Award, the Website Innovation Award, and the "Great Gig" Site Excellence Award. I've received a lot of email from Paul recently. He's still busy on the new album (hopefully release will be sometime before the end of the year). He's happiest when he's working.

I will also be doing some marketing and promotion of this site now ... search engines, here we come.

01/07/98 Added the Starting Point code to the index.html page of the site. Hopefully it'll get listed as a Hot Site ... I live in hope ... all I need is the votes (hint) ...

26/06/98 Added the Alternapunk Webring code to index.html. Now a proud co-member with the Official site!

26/06/98 Well, it's been a hectic two months, during which no updates were done to this site. For which, my apologies. I have been through a few problems, including losing some or all of the data on which I was basing this site (I was mugged). I won two more awards, but the emails (together with the URLS for the HTML code) have gone astray. Hopefully I'll be able to track it down. I have some new, unreleased pictures from the band, and Paul has emailed me to say that he will be sending me some info and some lyrics. He's working on the new album, and says it's going great.

NEWS FLASH!!! Paul's birthday is coming up on the 1st August. It's the big 3-0, and you can send him all your best wishes at [email protected]. Stay tuned for further updates, coming SOON!

21/4/98 This is unbelievable ... another two awards ... I must have been submitted somewhere ... thanks, whoever that was. These are the Fortune City Merit Award and the Critical Mass Award ... you'll know where to find them.

20/4/98 Another award! I've added the necessary code for it and uploaded it. Check the Awards section in the Admin Department.

16/4/98 I won an award! It's called "My First Award" (I kid you not) and it can be found in the Admin Department. Also added the necessary code for it, and have activated the http://listen.to/battery9 URL.

15/4/98 Completed most extensive update yet. The file battery9.html has been completely revamped, with added sections about the Cape gig trip, a revised sound section which includes a full album/track listing, and some in-depth band info. Lots of cool images, etc. Enjoy!

10/04/98 Added the new stat counter from EXtreme. Removed the IPStat link. I've done an extensive revamp of battery9.html, but have yet to finalise it and upload it. Hint- there's some stuff about the band in the Cape, new images, a new look ... stay tuned.

25/03/98 I've corrected the Industrial Fortune City Webring code on the default.html page. In theory, it should work properly now.

17/03/98 AAARGH!! Rumour has it the IPstat site has gone down permanently. Ouch. I was really hoping to make full use of it ...

07/03/98 Added the Industrial Fortune City Webring code to default.html.

06/03/98 Added the IpStat counter. More images and more sound samples planned for the near future.

26/02/98 The Sound section of battery9.html has been revamped to accommodate more songs. Uploaded "kiss the machine" and associated files.

25/02/98 Added the Events and Band sections to battery9.html, as well as a dding the Big Screen article. More images and sounds to come.

20/02/98 Uploaded the new version of battery9.html, and all associated files.

Added the hit counter today 17/2/98.
Added the META tag to the index file.
