Kurt Warner Error Card
KURT WARNER ERROR CARD

Many years ago, error cards were the pulse of the sports card hobby. Who doesn't remember the Billy Ripken 1989 Fleer baseball card fiasco? Or William "The Fridge" Perry's card from 1989 Pro Set football cards? Yes, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, card collectors had a variety of error and variation cards to choose from. The fad, and seemingly the number of errors, has decreased over the past several years.

When I received an autograph request back from St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner on August 18, 2001, I was thrilled. I knew that he probably wouldn't sign the card that I had sent him, but had heard that he sends his own card back to autograph seekers. However, I was surprised to find an error on the back of this card, though I'm sure it will not be corrected in future printings. Here's the back of the card:

You don't have to look closely to see the error. There are no misspellings, no biographical data about Warner (to my knowledge) is incorrect. So what is the error? The error is what's NOT there.

Warner is advocating the "sinner's prayer" on this card. I'm sure you've heard of it. It is the prayer that many religious persons believe is all that is needed for salvation. This prayer, however, cannot save anyone. That is not the plan that God designed for salvation.

The Bible gives us instructions as to how we may be saved, and the "sinner's prayer" is not a part of those instructions. Here are those steps, in simple terms:

    Hear (Romans 10:17)
    Believe (Hebrews 11:6)
    Repent (Acts 2:38)
    Confess (Romans 10:9)
    Be Baptized (Mark 16:16)
    Be Faithful (Revelation 2:10)

Kurt Warner is an outstanding football player, and from all accounts, a very nice person. But the error on this football card is too great for me not to comment upon.

If you have any questions about the above, or would like to learn more, please feel free to e-mail me, or locate and contact a local church of Christ in your area. If you need assistance in locating a faithful church, I would be more than happy to assist you.
