Dave Winfield
San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, California Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians
Outfield
"Daddy Longlegs" is one of the most outstanding athletes of the 20th century. A 1973 draft pick of the San Diego Padres, Winfield was also drafted by the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, the ABA's Utah Stars, and the NFL's Minnesota Vikings, even though he never played college football. A pitcher in college (13-1 in his senior season at the University of Minnesota), Winfield was converted to an everyday outfielder because of his bat, and started playing in the majors just a couple of weeks after he was drafted, never stepping onto a minor league baseball field. Winfield was the winner of 7 Gold Glove Awards and played in 12 All-Star games, starting 8 of them. With 465 home runs and over 3000 hits, he finished his illustrious 22-year career in 1995 with the Cleveland Indians.
