Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals
First Base
"Big Mac" started his career with a bang in 1987 by shattering the single-season record for home runs by a rookie with 49, leading to the 1997 Rookie of the Year award. In his 16-year career, McGwire finished with at least 30 round-trippers 11 seasons, including 4 seasons with more than 50. In 1998, McGwire broke Roger Maris' 37-year old record for home runs in a single season by clearing the fence 70 times, a mark which only stood for 3 years. He was selected to 12 All-Star teams, finished in the Top 10 in MVP voting 5 times, and led his league in home runs 4 times. McGwire retired 17 home runs shy of 600 career shots, fifth on the career list, and is considered by many to be the greatest power hitter of all time.
