Tim Raines
Montreal Expos, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Outfield
"Rock" was to the National League what Rickey Henderson was to the American League in the 1980s, but because he played in Montreal, the early part of his career was played without much recognition. While he still had a couple of good seasons left in him, his best years were behind him when traded to the White Sox after the 1990 season. Raines was named the NL Rookie of the Year by the Sporting News in 1981. He stole 70 or more bases in six straight seasons (1981-1986), and batted .300 or better seven times. Raines retired from the New York Yankees during spring training of 2000, but after a year away from the game decided to get back into it, signing a minor league contract with the team he started, the Montreal Expos, hoping to play well enough this spring to earn a spot on the major league roster. He is currently fifth on the all-time list for stolen bases with 807.
