The 1996 Windber Area High School Spirit and Excellence Marching Band had an exciting and successful competition season. With a "Pirate Adventure" as this year's theme, the band memebers were challenged to become characters in a production instead of simply moving and playing in a traditional format. The show and drill were designed by Bill Morrison and became one of the most popular and talked-about competitive programs throughout our area. The show featured a call to sea, search for secret treasure, the discovery of the treasure, a feeling of loneliness and melancholy aaafter a long period at sea, and a feeling of exuberance when sighting land and remembering the triumphant adventure. The band performed their program with enthusiasm and Drum Major Sherry Gogo was ranked 3rd out of 14 at Chapter Championships. the Band was ranked 12th among All Tournament of Bands Group One competition bands at the end of their season, a very high accomplishment. Mr. McGiboneey would like to thank all the staff and members of the 1996 competitive Marching Band for the most enjoyable season he has had to this point. |
