I do have a Professional life. This is a fact that I do not at all regret, it is an important and very rewarding part of Life As I Know It. My primary Professional interest is in the strategic use of Communication and Information Technology (ICT), especially in a Multinational Corporations (MNC) setting.

Why ICT?

Today, we have been accustomed to the concepts of IS and IT. We also use the concept ICT. This has to be something different from IS or IT, if it is supposed to be a meaningful concept. Exactly what is it, and why do we need this concept?

Strategic use of ICT

Most companies I work with, tells me that ICT (or even IT) is of 'strategic importance' to the company. What do they mean by that? How do they go about handling (and managing) ICT then, given that it is 'strategically important'?

Practical use of ICT

ICT tends to be part of just about any value creating process. Given a number of such processes, a very large number of practices are available to apply ICT to these processes. Some are good, some not so good.

Modeling

When we want to view the ways ICT, company strategies, the value creation processes and company practices interact, the picture quickly becomes so complex (or blurred) that we would wish for some way to get a clearer view. Enter a model. Models have their own characteristics, and for a certain scenario, a specific model may be very good. Or not so good.
