The Twin Towers Fund

It was on that beautiful morning that our innocence was taken away. When thousands of people going into or already in work were no more..... How can a person tell someone a family member, someone who may have kissed he or she goodbye on an everyday travel to work, that they were never going to come back again. How do you look into the eyes of a child and tell them that mommy or daddy is gone.

It was the terrorists thoughts and dreams that with this evil act that they could bring us to our knees.....

But, this is AMERICA....

As Admiral Yamamoto said soon after bombing Pearl Harbor;

"I am afraid we have wakened a sleeping giant."

These are just some of the words of people expressing their grief and sorrow for the thousands who lost their lives and the one's we call

And the list continues....

None of these heroes knew they would never be home again, that they would be settled in the arms of our Almighty God on September 11th. But, they did so to save those who needed saving, sacrifice for those in danger, and give it all in the line of duty. Yes, they are indeed heros, both now and for all eternity...

Subject: Brother When You Weep . . .

Brother when you weep for me Remember that it was meant to be

Lay me down and when you leave Remember I'll be at your sleeve

In every dark and choking hall I'll be there

as you slowly crawl On every roof in driving snow I'll hold your coat and you will know

In cellars hot with searing heat At windows where a gate you meet

In closets where young children hide You know I'll be there at your side

The house from which I now respond Is overstaffed with heroes gone

Men who answered one last bell Did the job and did it well

As firemen we understand That death's a card dealt in our hand

A card we hope we never play But one we hold there anyway

That card is something we ignore As we crawl across a weakened floor

For we know that we're the only prayer

For anyone that might be there

So remember as you wipe your tears

The joy I knew throughout the years

As I did the job I loved to do --

Please share this with the men and women that need to see it....

May your trail be an easy walk,

Yahv Hecti OKC

Dear NYFD,

Hello

to all, my name is Steve Cowling, I'm a former Fire Officer from Melbourne Australia, and was fortunate enough to have been hosted by the NYFD on a work related trip to the USA in 1996. The reason for my trip was to fact find, helping to establish our own Urban Search and Rescue capability, which was a huge success here. In light of the recent tragedies of the terrorist attacks on your nation and in particular the resulting effects on New York Fire Department and its Fire Fighters and their families. I must offer my heart felt sorrow that all fellow Fire Fighters around the world must also feel, to all concerned and their loved ones. In this emotional and very, very sad time, I reflect on my stay with the New York Fire Department at many different Fire Station Houses and the many colourful and wonderful people I met and befriended during this time. The curtesy shown to me during my stay was second to none and will be a time in my life, that I will always remember and be always grateful for. The fact that the loss of life in this hour of darkness is so heart rendering to all, makes me personally reflect on all the situations I, and all Fire Fighters often find themselves in. It cant help to reflect on our own mortality and the dangers potentially faced everyday, with the reality being, the results of this sad day. My memory of the New York Fire Fighters will always be of brave, capable real people, with an underlining dedication that is admired world wide. These amazing people, prepared to sacrifice the ultimate to perform their job, for the sake of others, and without question. To quote Former Melbourne Fire Chief Mr Jeff Godfredson, "Ordinary people, performing "Extraordinary" work". In my words, they truly are "Real Heroes" I thank God for the opportunity that I was given, to have met and rode with some of the Worlds Bravest Fire Fighters from the Worlds most amazing city, New York. The Melbourne Fire Service as an organization has grown greatly from the contact it has established with the NYFD, and personally it was a, once in a lifetime experience. I have honestly shed tears of sadness from this distance, so I cant even begin to image the thoughts and feelings of everyone directly effected by this event. I'm certain other fire services around the world will respond directly, with their thoughts as well as review of operational procedures for this type of horrific reality. This event will and can only strengthen the NYFD family, and with time I truly hope the pain eases. I believe all NYFD Fire Fighters will strive to continue to be the best, bravest, capable and most prepared, in the memory of all those lost. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Subject: Ode To A Fire Engine.........

After seeing on T.V. the scenes of devastation and the wrecked Fire-Engines in the streets, and knowing how much a part of a Firefighters life consists of looking after those Fire-Engines, they are cared for lovingly, and to see them crushed like that, it was a very sad sight and it brought back to me a poem that I read years ago in my Brigade Magazine.

Ode To A Fire-Engine

Great shiny monster standing there,

with great red cheeks and glassy stare

Excitement doesn't turn your hair,

I know you well But you can gallop fast when needs,

and ring your bell You sit contented looking vain,

protected from the wind and rain

The ruler of your domain, nor do you sleep

Who knows what battles you will fight, while mortals weep

When streets are full and roads are black,

and traffic never gives you slack

You turn and twist to find a crack,

that lets you go For when your called for you'll be sent,

to friend or foe With horn's blaring, bells that ring!

My God but your a lovely thing!

As through the crowds and mobs you swing,

on mercy's call For sanity and hope you bring,

to one and all The people cheer when you go past!

determined not to be the last!

To meet the fury and the blast ,

till trouble's o'er And yet aware that that this could be your finest hour!

For when the holocaust is done, the flames are quenched, the battle won

You stood your ground and never run,

from what befell Even though your very end could be A flaming Hell......

God bless.

Dedicated to the Firefighters of New York, and their Fallen Comrades.

We have learned why

We showed the world just why they call us the

UNITED STATES

We pulled together, took care of our own, even if we did not even know them. All we did know is that they were AMERICANS and they needed our help. People from all across the Country came to New York in it's desperate hour of need. To work, and to try and comfort those who were affected by the loss.
