Lucifer, made up by members Makoto (Vocals), Yuki (Guitar), Atsuro (Guitar),
Towa (Bass) and Santa (Drums), made their debut in Japan on 15th September
1999 with their single "Datenshi Blue" which is the theme song for the Japanese animation "Kaikan Phrase".
The shoujo manga/animation [Kaikan Phrase] by Maya Shinjo gave birth to
the real life band Lucifer. Shown in Japan on Tokyo TV on Tuesdays,
[Kaikan Phrase] is about a J-rock band with a handsome leading guy named
Sakuya, the lead singer of the band Lucifer.
Lucifer, Ryushiferu is the French pronounciation of the word Lucifer (the fallen
angel, Satan). The character L is the Greek letter for the letter 'L'.
Members of the real-life band Lucifer are :-
Makoto (Vocals), Yuki (Guitar), Atsuro (Guitar), Towa (Bass), Santa (Drums)
When the band made their debut, with the exception of Makoto, the rest of
the band members bear the character names from the original manga. Makoto,
the vocalist kinda represents Sakuya., the member's images are similar to
the image potrayed in the manga, for example, hair colour, dress sense,
as the band originates from the manga [Kaikan Phrase].
Lucifer is getting more & more popular in Japan right now! Popular magazines
like the Oricon's The Ichiban, Areana 37oC, PopBeat (Feb & May 2000 & Jan
& Feb 2001 Issues) and PATiPATi had all featured Lucifer on their covers. Lots
of other magazines like Backstage Pass, Junon, Popolo, Myojo, Winkup etc.
carry articles of Lucifer every month. Lucifer has a regular radio spot on
FM Osaka, every Wednesday, named [SPARK ENERGY]. Makoto himself has
a radio from April 4th 2000!) Coming 2001.01.16, Lucifer will make regular TV appearance on TV Tokyo's [FLAMBOY]. They also often have TV and radio
guests appearances on different TV networks and radio stations.
Having already staged shows for 3 LIVE TOURS (I went to the last show of
the 3rd Live on 2000.08.23!) throughout Japan since their debut, Lucifer is
definitely one of the most sought after new bands in Japan today!
Undoubtfully the most popular among all the members, Makoto also had
starred in CMs, TV dramas and even has his own radio show on FM Fuji
named Makoto no Private Fuzion. He made his debut in Meiji "Qun" and
Tokyo Digital Phone "Skywalker" commercial. He also has a minor role in
the drama "Semi Double" where he was a university student. "Semi-Double"
co-stars include Izumi Inamomi (of Beach Boys fame). In his 2nd drama role,
he starred as B.J. in "Psychometror Eiji 2" (a manga which I read! The character
B.J. is non-existent in the manga though) with TOKIO's Matsuoka Masahiro,
V6's Inohara Yoshihiko and Musical Academy's Kohara Yuki. A pretty minor
role, B.J. is the "head" of a gang of wayward youngsters. He died in the show
when he suicided with a corrupt politician. The show is currently available for
sale in Japan. It's a pretty good drama, much better than the 1st Eiji Drama.
Recently, Makoto also starred as the lead in a play Ninagawa's Hi no tori
(fire bird) with former Speed member, Imai Eriko at Saitama's Super Arena.
