OASIS - Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants
Well?, How long is it? 3 years!...Maybe your asking is it worth
it?...have they changed anything.
Well that's what I'm going to tell you.
Firstly...Was it worth the wait?..frankly..YES!.
Because If you listen to the album you can tell they have tried to go back
in time a bit to the Definitely Maybe/Morning Glory days.
I know It's long but I think it's worth reading
So..I will go song by song, but really you would have to make your own
mind up on this album because it does need a few listening's to, to be
able to get into the changes that OASIS have made...Right..pay attention!
1. FUCKIN' IN THE BUSHES
Now this one I like, it's a rock'in instrumental with sample's added in to
bolster it and it actually works in my opinion, their is nice guitar work
from former band member Guigsey, with banging drum work just set into the
background. 7/10
2. GO LET IT OUT
Well nearly everybody has already heard this one on the radio and on the
music channel's for weeks, And yes upon listing to it straight away it's
the classic OASIS sound coming through with the rough vocals of Liam
Gallagher..Although it is a classic sound it is still a cool neat little
song..I am sure all you 300,000+ who bought the single agree. 7/10
3. WHO FEEL'S LOVE
This is where in my opinion OASIS change because this song is a smooth,
slow, mellow song and could be quite hypnotic if listened to in the
dark...They crack it with this song when you listen to the chorus and I
think that the chorus is what most people remember of nearly all songs.
8/10
4. PUT YER MONEY WHERE YER MOUTH IS
This song start's and end's weird and reminds me of a REM song, I am sure
some of you would agree. Then Once again soon as the song comes in, it is
once again a classic OASIS rough cut song that you might expect to hear
from the Definitely Maybe album. 7/10
5. LITTLE JAMES
This song was written and sung by liam for his son Lennon and it is not
what you might expect from the hard lads of rock (hehe). It is a sweet
little song and need listening to, I mean really needs listing to because
it's probably one of the best song on this album. 9/10
6. GAS PANIC!
Well I think this is another cracking song, it starts kinda slow but about
1:30 mins into it begins to rock. With some great guitar work that really
takes you into the song, I know for certain that this will be one song on
most ppl's favorite list. I would think that OASIS would release this one
as a single. 9/10
7. WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG
This was what the national press thought the album would be called, but as
you can see it's not..now on to the song..Another slowish song thats
reminds me a bit of a song from BE HERE NOW which doesn't make it a crap
song, But it is not the best. 5/10
8. SUNDAY MORNING CALL
Funnily enough, this another quiet, smooth, mellow song. You could sit
down and chill to this song and after you have listened to it you'll be
chilled, although I think it's slightly too long. 6/10
9. I CAN SEE A LIAR
To me this sounds like a Modern beatle-ish song with past album
tendencies, They must have began to run outta idea's by this time. 4/10
10. ROLL IT OVER
After listening to this song a few times, you start to pick out bit's of
the song that sound familiar, like beatle-ish (again) and some old style
OASIS, but saying that it still a chunky little song that stand's it own
ground. 7/10
Well overall, this album is quite a change for OASIS although they are
still going to their past to pick up idea's they have still done a good
job because the songs that matter are the one's that sound different from
the norm. OVER ALL : 8/10
