Aim: To (hopefully) convince you that, although I am not always right, my choice of clubs is spot on and allows me to cover the complete distance range quite comfortably without any gaps or forced shots.
In LS98 this wasnt really an issue, especially as all the clubs more or less had a 5 yard adjustment per click of loft so you could cover any distance with your clubs. in LS99 this has changed so the loft adjustment for the long clubs isnt so big, and now club selection is important.Later on in this guide is the loft chart for the clubs and this will show why my club selection is
Driver (1W),2W,3W,4W,5W ...
3I,4I,5I,6I,7I,8I,9I ... PW,SW,LW ... Putter
Choose any one
of the 2 Wood, 7 iron or Sand Wedge
Forget the 1iron and 2iron, they are no good when you have a much more versatile 5W which does the job of both. The 4W is a tremendously useful club and covers the large gap in yardages between 5W and 3W, the 2W can be useful for the longer par5's but you can leave this out for the SW or 7I if you wish. I personally sacrifice the 7I because I know I can use loft on the 6I to behave just like the 7I. I hardly use the SW, so this is also left out of my bag. I would say my clubs are the 100% right ones, but you may disagree, to which I say try my clubs, and if you must have the SW or 7I then take it instead of the 2W. I am sure you'll find this set of clubs has the nicest range of distances and flexibility for any course.
Top Tips:
Think carefully about your clubs, cover the whole distance range but bear in mind any "favourite" shots you might have
If you do find yourself forcing shots of a certain distance, don't be afraid to change a club to cover that
I'm going off the 2W more and more now in LS99....drop it for the 7iron or SW
Forget the 1iron,2iron,6wood and 7wood.....other clubs do their job better, you only need one club for each range of distance
