Aim: To encourage you to try it out, it's frustrating, but a lot of fun and more in the spirit of real golf, if thats what you are after!
I played this a few times, couldnt do it and binned it. Even more annoying to find out there was a "cheat" which allowed you to hit the snap 100% of the time and hit the ball amazingly far (500 yards+)..sadly, I had to ban PS from the tour for that reason, even more sadly there were one or two people that had used this cheat in their registration round on tour. And to add insult to injury, they claimed it was just for practice and that they weren't going to use it on tour ( and yet when I asked them how they played so well with PS, the reply was "you get used to it")...nothing worse than a cheating bastard, except for a lying, cheating bastard. As an aside, what is it with people ? whats wrong with them ? someone should have written this guide already, and saved me the effort, but people dont seem to want to help anyone..I've had people tell me to apply loft by clicking the meter in a different position, I've had people claiming they didnt know what the symbols on the meter meant when they used a flop and punch shot, I've been lied to about sand, and there is an option with your player ( I still dont know what it is) that means your opponent doesnt see your grid when putting (the tragic thing is I'm sure this is meant as a "smart" way to help them win, dont want people to see my putts eh?)...my point here is that the player I first saw doing this was holing them from all over...when I asked how he could read the greens, especially because it would be impossible to tell the difference between a flat putt and one with an inch of break...his answer "I always do it like that, putt by feel and get used to it".....is the world full of sad, demented twats who are so obsessed with world domination that they'll actually lie rather than help you with something ? sheeeeshhhhh.....I wonder how they feel about me giving this guide out free to the Links community ( and yes, you've guessed it I have already had 3 emails saying that I ought to have thought it through because there'll be a lot more players now able to compete with and beat anyone, that would be a shame wouldnt it ?!).......Ah, powerstroke, yes, back to the topic. No tips here, I've only just started again, played 4 rounds so far ! But theres that article over at Webring, I bet you've all been there, seems to be a good idea to concentrate on a smooth, steady swing (why am I always "open" on the backswing?LOL)...I have yet to calibrate the swing speeds with distance, but they seem OK, except my woods are too long, and I couldnt putt for toffee, but I hit 10 or 12 putts in practice and worked out a nice easy scale I could remember and now I nail them like I can't believe, putting is my top talent now in PS ! So, go out there and have a go, and hit some practice putts on the 9th at St.Andrews, you'll soon get the hang of it, and you will enjoy it, in fact I play PS now if you're a friend, so take it as a compliment if I ask you for a PS game, it means I want to have a fun, friendly game with the score a side issue, and the enjoyment being the primary concern !
My Brief
(rekindled) Powerstroke Career so far
St. Andrews, no wind,normal,medium (until
I reach a good enough standard haha)
Round 1~: 79
(37 putts) ... followed by 10-12 practice
putts on the 9th green
Round 2~: 72 (hoorah ! for par)
Round 3~: 71 (under par, eight birdies too!)
Round 4:~:68 (getting better)
I also spent 30 minutes or so hitting balls at the 2nd hole at Latrobe...hats off to anyone with a PS hole-in-one, I couldn't manage one in practice!
Top Tips:
Don't be shy, have a go, and you may be surprised that you will like it, honest
This is really a game where you can do your own practice to suit your game
Scores are much more lifelike and the satisfaction is much greater when you go low
Watch out for anyone hitting snap 100% and hitting the ball a LONG way...bastards
