St.Andrews Old Course
no wind,normal,medium
Score : 55 (-17)
Fways Hit: 100% G.I.R.:94% Putts: 21
1 Eagle,15 Birdie,2 Par
Hole 1
Driver to leave LW to green ( no backspin problem as green flat
and downhill), 81.2 yd approach 9" downhill, hit full LW,
look at that, spins back into the cup for an eagle two! dont try
this at home kids, but seriously that would have left a tap-in
birdie, the eagle was a nice bonus
Hole 2
Driver to get over the mounds in fairway left 135.6 yards, 6.8ft
uphill with an uphill lie equating to about 1-2 clicks of loft,
hence I chose the full 8I, and stuffed it to 7.3ft. Putt was in
hole, off left centre for birdie
Hole 3
5W to avoid the bunker at 271 yards left 125yd approach
2"uphill, with a lie of about 1-2 lofts and a side lie
meaning I aimed 8ft right of pin, chose a 9I with loft clicked
one down and dropped it 4ft from flag, another tap in birdie, off
left centre of hole
Hole 4
Driver to get flat bit of fairway left 154.9yd, 4.8ft uphill and
a side lie, aimed 8'right of pin with an 8I clicked two down on
loft and got to 9.7ft of pin, again a putt in the cup off the
left centre of hole for birdie
Hole 5
Driver to get on in two.Left with 227.6yd,3" uphill, lie
equating to 1 loft and 12' right of pin, hit 5W clicked one down,
got to 22.8ft of flag. Aimed 10" left, looked good for eagle
but slight mis-snap on putt keeps it out for tap in birdie.
Hole 6
Driver to avoid bunker trouble.112.4yds remain,3.5ft downhill,
lie looks like 1 loft and aim is 20' left, hit PW just past 12 to
finish 5.4ft, flat putt, birdie.
Hole 7
2W for a safe 8I second.140yds,32" uphill, hit 8I clicked
one up loft, hit too hard and went 13.4ft past. Putt aimed
7" to right and in for birdie
Hole 8
166.5 yard par3, 3.2ft downhill, hit 6I clicked one up loft, left
it short of 12 o'clock, so 11.1 ft away. Aimed putt 9" left
and made the birdie
Hole 9
Driver to get on green, sliced snap badly to 26.4 yards. Used
putter, hit to 15 dots (aimed at hole)..16" short ! tap-in
birdie
So Far....Front 9, Played in a 10 under par 26 with no evidence of consistent good snap, but a couple of solid putts and a lucky eagle
Hole 10
5I to leave an 8I approach. 137.1yds, 30" uphill, aim 20'
right for lie, hit 8I one up loft, again too hard, 26.9ft !
nevertheless aimed 11" right and sank the putt for birdie
Hole 11
176.8 yard par3, 7.9ft downhill, used the 6I clicked down one
loft, stuck it to 7",shoulda gone in, but a nice birdie
Hole 12
4W to clear the bunkers, left 83.9yd, 20" downhill, remember
shot at first, so clicked LW loft one down, just kicked into
fringe 11.3ft, could have chipped in, but flat so used the putter
off right centre of hole, missed snap caused missed putt, darn it
! a lonely par on the card ( for now)
Hole 13
2W to avoid narrowest bit of fairway, 177yd left, 3.1ft uphill,
aim 10' right, used 5I clicked up three lofts, hit to 5.8ft, left
centre of hole putt.Birdie
Hole 14
Driver to get on in two. Left with 246.8yds, 12" downhill,
hit 3W max loft to stop it, horrid snap to 20.1 yards. LW chip
aimed 2 squares (6ft) right, hit at 15 dots (just before 12
o'clock) got it to 30" for tap-in birdie
Hole 15
4I for wide,flat fairway. 225.2yds,13" uphill, hit 5W, bad
snap again to 33.7ft, aimed putt 7' right but hit way short,
tough par putt 5.7ft aimed 5" right and hit firm.Par
Hole 16
Driver to leave LW to green. 82.6 yds, remembering we kicked into
fringe at 12, left LW at default loft and aimed 15ft left for
lie, hit to 5.1 feet, right centre of hole putt for birdie
Hole 17
Driver for flat fairway, left 188.6yds, 13" downhill, aimed
15ft left for lie, hit 5I with one click up of loft, to 7.6ft,
straight putt for birdie
Hole 18
Driver to leave LW to green (reverse of first hole), left with
70yds, 5.1 ft uphill, hit LW clicked up two loft, hit to 8.9
feet.Easy putt for birdie.
So there it is, even with some horror snaps and not even that many perfect snaps, a comfortable 55, and look how I was able to hit a LW into four different greens, meaning I had a good idea where they were all going, you wont always get a LW for a stock shot, but here at St.Andrews the fairways are wide ! Also notice how most of the putts were inside the hole, and therefore easy, only had to aim outside hole a few times and perhaps only two of the putts were ones you wouldnt expect to get on a regular basis. The only two pars were the result of one bad snap on a putt and one very weakly hit putt, or it could have been better. How did you get on playing along with Bomber ?
