1 Eagle,14 Birdie,3 Par
Hole 1
Driver to centre of fway.156yds left, and 4ft uphill, breeze in
face and slightly to left, lie slightly to left, took the 6iron
15ft right of pin and stuck it to 15" for gimmie birdie. (
note breeze took about 15yds off the club)
Hole 2
183yd par3, 7ft downhill but breeze in face, thinking of about a
15yd drop for the wind, I take 4iron clicked up 1 loft and aim
7ft left for the slight angle of wind. Got to 8 feet and had flat
putt for birdie.
Hole 3
Driver to left edge of fairway and held off snap to avoid the
hook into water, left with 147yds to pin, wind in face at 7
o'clock, hit a 1-up lofted 6iron, which was too hard and kicked
to 22 feet, but sank the birdie putt, aiming 12" right of
the cup.
Hole 4
Driver minus 2 loft to try and get on in 2. 233 yds to pin, wind
at 8 o'clock, 14ft uphill and uphill lie, took the 2Wood to be
sure to get on, aimed 30ft right and got 19ft above hole, and
hooked the putt (aimed 7" left, looked good) but had a
tap-in birdie.
Hole 5
Safe 4iron off the tee, left 170yds wind at 2 o'clock, 3 ft
downhill, aimed 30ft left and took 6iron with 1 loft, got a hard
bounce to 17ft. Looking at the putt, looked same as one on last
hole so aimed 7" left, hit snap, thanks for coming, a birdie
Hole 6
Driver at right edge of fway at 290yds. Left with 213yds, wind at
back,13" downhill ,took the 4iron to be sure to get up and
aimed 12ft left for slight wind angle, hit to 14ft.Aim was
15" left, not quite enough borrow, a safe birdie though.
Hole 7
160yd par3, 9ft uphill and wind at 7:30...6iron clicked one down
loft and aimed 15ft right, got to 10ft, putt inside right edge of
cup, birdie
Hole 8
5Wood to widest bit of fway, left 173yds, 4ft uphill, wind at
back but lie uphill and to right..6iron clicked 1up loft aimed
10ft left.Another hard kick to 21 feet, but better than being
short and risking the water. In any case 25" left aim and
another bomber birdie..a-ha!
Hole 9
Driver left 120yds, 5ft uphill, wind at back, aimed PW one up
loft at flag, should have had more loft its gone 20 feet by, but
aimed 7" left and simply piped the putt for another
birdie....who says you need to get close to get a good score ;-)
So Far....Front 9, Played in a 9 under par 27 with a plethora of good putts rescuing some clumsy approach play
Hole 10
Driver to 124yds, 14ft uphill, wind to right and slightly in
face, lie to left, played the 9iron 20ft left of pin and hooked
the snap to get to 8ft. Left edge of the hole equals a 10th
consecutive bird.
Hole 11
4Wood off the tee on left edge of fway to avoid the water. 169yds
to flag wind at 4 o'clock, 8ft uphill, tried to push a 6iron in
with 1 down on loft, came up 15ft short, aimed 13" left and
"aliced" the putt.....a par..doh!
Hole 12
Driver at right edge of fway.Facing 261yds and wind at 8 o'clock
I ought to have layed up, but simply smacked a 2wood to fringe at
front of green, hit PW chip at 12 pips got to 5ft and a birdie
putt just off right edge of hole
Hole 13
5Wood to stay on fway. 115yds to go,4" downhill, wind at
1:30 and lie to right, hit PW 2up on loft, aimed 25ft left,
horror snap and shot to 34ft over green into fringe.PW chip aimed
3ft right, got close and made par. Amazing how often the 11th and
13th are pars for me in many of my great scores....weird that.
Hole 14
Par3 of 171yds, wind to left, 5ft uphill, hit a 6iron 1 down on
loft aimed 30ft right and got to 11ft, stroked in the hole for
birdie
Hole 15
Driver took the corner of fway on and cleared it. 96yds to go,
wind at 10 o'clock, 19" uphill, LW lofted down 3 clicks,
aimed 25ft right, went 20ft past, 5" left of the cup and you
knew I was gonna make it didnt you?
Hole 16
Driver left 184yds to flag, wind at back, 4ft downhill, hit 6iron
with 1 loft up, aimed 8ft right and hit firm..got to 13ft and
slid the eagle home.
Hole 17
Par3 of 189yds, 5ft downhill, and wind at 7 o'clock. Hit a hard
4iron and aimed 12ft left, got to 6ft and simply demanded another
bird
Hole 18
Driver to 168yds, wind at 4:30, 6ft uphill, tried to be cute with
a 2 down loft 6iron, aimed 25ft left and wound up 27ft
short...horror putt, had to make sure of two putts for par.Aimed
6 feet left but hit it like a lesbian leaving a 5 footer for par
very tricky, aimed about a hole width to the left and smacked it
in for a 56.
And if that isn't conclusive proof that I am simply the greatest Links player without any kind of decent snap, then I dont know what is. Sloppy approach play but some smart shots, and a whole bunch of good solid putts. Breezy is just childs play when you play windy all the time, and notice how you can more or less play 15yds distance for a full breeze, whatever the club and the drift is about the same too...no need to worry here, breezy is easy...hoho
