A guide to where all of the items are located

These are all of the items that you can find in The Legend of the Zelda: A link to the past for the Super Nintendo. You may recognize most of them from the different Zelda games since they always come back. This is also the Zelda with the most items/weapons in it but unfortunately the best ones require a lot of magic power and for that matter not be used a lot. I organized those items in no specific order but note that all of them have their location in the game, their use, if their require magic or not, and interesting facts when available.

Bow and arrows:

An old favorite from every Zelda games. This is a reliable and powerful weapon that you will probably use a lot during your journey. You will find the bow in the Eastern palace of the light world. There are a limited amount of arrows but they can be found lying around the world of Hyrule in the grass or by defeating enemies. By the way, you can upgrade your maximum stack of arrows by throwing rupees in the fountain in the cave in lake Hylia of the light world. Also, the arrows can be changed into silver near the end of the game, which is required to battle and destroy the Final boss.

Magic powder:

This is a rather useless item in this game but is funny and weird when you sprinkle it on various monsters. To find it, you should first find the mushroom that is hidden in the lost woods of the light world; next bring it back to the witch who is located on the northeast of you house. Give it to her and she will tell you to wait a few moment, move to another screen and then come back, go into the shop and you will find it on the ground.

Boomerang:

The first weapon other than your sword that you should find in the game. It is accurate and can be used to paralyze or destroy enemies and is also used to hit switches and such. You find it in Hyrule castle right in the beginning of the game. You will also be given the opportunity to upgrade into a red more powerful item by throwing it in the fountain which s hidden in the waterfall in the most northeastern place in Hyrule where you get the flippers (light world).

Ice rod:

This is one of my favorite items in the game because you can freeze just about anything that moves (hehehe). Unfortunately it uses a bunch of magic power. You will be able to find it in a cave on the northeast part of lake Hylia. Just bomb the wall next to the entrance and you can get it in a treasure box. One of the other cool features of this rod is that every time you freeze someone, hit him with the magic hammer and you will get a magic jar.

Fire rod:

Another rod but this time you can incinerate monsters or light up torches. This one is found in the third dungeon of the dark world. It still uses magic power, which is interesting because it didn't in Link's Awakening.

Book of Mudora:

This object is located in the library of the light world on one of the shelves. To make it fall, just run in with your Pegasus boots and you will acquire it. This book is used to translate Hylian writing so you can read it.

Bug catching net:

This rather odd object is used to catch fairies and bugs to put them in an empty bottle. You can get it in Kakariko village by the little sick boy, but you need a bottle first.

Flute (ocarina):

This very famous instrument from the Zelda universe is also in this game and is used to go from place to place using the rooster. To find it go to the tree west of your house in the dark world. Here you will find an armadillo looking thing that wants you to find his flute using the shovel. Then take out your mirror and go back to the light world, go to the upper left part of the screen where there are flowers. Now start digging; thou shall find the flute (which is really an ocarina.) Now go back to the dark world and give it to the armadillo dude and he will tell you to keep it since he cannot play it anymore. He will ask you to play it one last time before turning into a tree. Go back into the light world (I know it's annoying) and go to Kakariko village and go in front of the rooster (the bird like statue) and play your flute/ocarina. He will wake up and now you can go to eight different locations just by playing your flute only in the light world.

Lamp:

An item that you find in a chest in your house in the beginning of the game. It lights up dark rooms but aside from that it is really useless. Uses magical power.

Hookshot:

This original weapon can be found in the second dungeon of the dark world. It can be used to paralyze enemies, pull yourself to different places, and grab rupees and other various objects. Unfortunately there is no upgrade version like in Ocarina Of Time.

Magic Hammer:

A devastating weapon that is used to crush enemies, the only downside though is that it has to be used at close range. It is hidden in the first temple of the dark world, and is required to destroy the shell on the head of the boss of that temple.

Shovel:

You get it from the little armadillo guy (again) who is located west of your house on a tree stump. Just talk to him and he'll lend it to you; like most shovels it is used to dig

Bombs:

A pretty pointless weapon that is used mostly to explode cracked walls; you can also defeat enemies with it but I don't recommend it since it's so hard. They are found everywhere around Hyrule: in grass, treasure chests, shops, or simply by killing enemies. You can also upgrade your maximum stack by throwing rupees in the fountain of the Lake Hylia just like the arrows.

Bombos:

This attack is used to burn and blow up everything around you. It uses a whole bunch of magic power and can be found by reading the little monument with the book of Mudora. Just go in the desert of the dark world and use your magic mirror to come back, at a certain position you will come back on the hill that was inaccessible if you were just in the light world. This is one of the three magic medallions found in this game.

Ether:

Another medallion that freezes every enemies on the screen and is also used to open a temple into the dark world. It also uses quite a bit of magic powder. This one is found at the top of the mountain where there is the third temple; all you do is teleport yourself in to the dark world using the little blue thing surrounded by rocks. You should see two little monsters playing, there are standing on a light surface, go on it and take out the magic mirror, which makes you go back. You should appear on a hill in the light world, which was inaccessible from before, then try looking for a stone with inscription on it, take out your book of Mudora and start reading, you should get it.

Quake:

The third and last medallion, like the first two it damages everybody on that screen but this time with an earthquake. It also used magic powder. To find this one all you have to do is throw a rock, bush, or anything you want into the circle of stone in the water at the north east of Lake Hylia.

Magic Cape:

This item would have been the best if only it didn't use so much magic, but anyway it makes invisible and invincible fro as long as you have magic. You can find it in the light world by going to the cemetery, go the east of it and should find a tombstone surrounded by little black stones that can only be lifted with the Titan's Mitt. After that just run in it using the Pegasus boots and walk down to find a chest with the cape.

Magic Bottle:

This item is used to store liquids such as blue, green, or red potions bought at different shops. You also store fairies bees that are found basically everywhere. But remember that you need the bug catching net to catch them. In the game there are four of them located at different places, just be sure to have them before battling the final boss!

1- In kakariko village there is a man in the middle of the village that will sell it to you for 100 rupees.

2- Still in kakariko village, enter the long house by the back and open it from the chest.

3- Get the chest from the smithy shop in the dark world, after that go to the desert in the light world and give it to that guy who never wants to speak.

4- Get it from a sleeping guy under a bridge south east of hyrule castle in the light world.

Cane of Somaria :

This cane has the power of creating blocks. It does use quite a bit of magic so be careful, it is located in the misery mire and is only used in the last dungeons.

Cane of Byrna :

This cane has the ability of making invincible for as long as you have enough magic. Find the Staff by entering the Magical Transporter near Spectacle Rock. Immediately travel south to reach a hidden cave. Knock the obstacles down with the Hammer, but make sure you have plenty of reserve life energy (or the Magic Cape and reserve Magic Power) so you survive the gauntlet of spikes. The large block at the end can be lifted with the Power Glove.

Magic mirror:

This is probably the most important item in the game; it lets you travel from the dark to the light world but not the light to the dark, you have to take the special star thing to get back. In dungeons it takes you back to the entrance. To find it go to Death mountain and enter the cave and you will have to get an old man out, he then gives it to you. Swords: There are four levels for the swords in this game, here is where there are. 1-You get it from your uncle in the beginning. 2- the master sword is found in the lost woods once you have got all the three pendants. 3-The tempered sword is attained by finding the little frog that is where the library is in the light world, then go back to the light world and find the smithy's house, which is in kakariko village. The brothers will be so happy that you joined them together again that they will forge your sword for only 10 rupees. 4- this one comes from the fat fairy in the dark world; just go to the pyramid and bomb the crack with the super bomb (it can be purchased for 100 rupees after you completed the ice cavern and the misery mire.

Shield:

The first one, you have it automatically: the second one, the red one is found by throwing your shield into the fountain that is behind the waterfall at the north east of Hyrule. The third and last one is found by completing turtle rock.

Tunics:

Those are here to help your defense. It starts out with the green cloth, then the blue cloth from the ice cavern, and finally the red costume from the Ganon's tower. The blue one cuts damage by 25% and the red by 50%.

Super bombs:

those bombs can only be used to destroy the cracked up wall at the pyramid. It can be bought at the bomb shop by completing the ice cavern and the misery mire. It will cost 100 rupees.

Moon pearl:

The moon pearl is used to keep you in your normal shape when you visit the dark world, unless you will become a cute pink rabbit. It is found in the third temple of the light world.

Pegasus boots:

Those boots make you run fast which can kill enemies or hit trees to make stuff fall. You get them from Sahasrahla after beating the first temple of the light world.

Power Glove:

those gloves are used to pick up larger rocks or boulders. There are two levels; the first one found in the desert temple of the light world, it can pick up light rocks and boulders. The second and last one is found in Blind's hideout and is called Titan's mitt; it can lift darker rocks and boulders as well as light ones.

Flippers:

Those flippers help you swim in dark water, you can find buy them from the Zora at Zora's waterfall for 500 rupees. Zora's waterfall is located at the northeast of Hyrule.
