X-COM
Hints/Cheats
I have seen a couple of posts about the difficulty of the game.I have had the PC version for a while and here are some tips which should work for the PSX version: 1. Build your bases in large, wealthy countries.I have the maximum of 8 bases in the following areas: Mid-West US, Brazil, Germany, Persian Gulf, West Russia, Antartica, Middle of Africa and Australia. This setup allows your radar to have the broadest range. 2. Only build Large Radar Systems.Don't bother with the small ones. 3. Buy lots of scientists and lots of labs! Research is a huge part of this game. 4. When you finish a mission and have a couple of dead alien bodies, sell all of them and keep only 1 of each kind. This way you make some money and still have 1 dead body to research. 5. Build an alien containment room. This allows live aliens that you captured to stay alive so you can research and interrogate them. 6. In order to get Psionic abilities (which lets you use mind control against the aliens) you must capture a live Sectoid or Etheral leader. Research them and you will be able to train your soldiers to use mind control. 7. In order to find out the aliens origins and their plans, you need to capture and research a live alien commander. You can usually find a commander in large UFOs and alien bases. You can't finish the game unless you do this. 8. When on a mission always select the button which enables your soldiers to take a snap shot during the alien turn.It is one of the buttons on the left (consult the manual to find out exactly where it is). 9. When on a mission make your soldiers kneel at the end of their turns. This makes it harder for the aliens to spot you and it gives you better firing accuracy. 10. Never leave your soldiers out in the open! Always make sure you take cover before you end your turn. 11. It is a good idea to purchase a tank with a rocket launcher. It has a wider range of sight and carries more firepower than your soldiers. These are the only tips I can think of right now.If I come up with more, I will post them.Hope this helps. -Keith -MSTie #59332
