Terra Brandford is the first permanent player in the game. She was
raised from childhood by the emperor, and
knows nothing about her past. She is the product of a human and an esper, and can use
magic freely.
She has been brainwashed, though, and is working for Emperor Geshtal when you start the
game.
She also learns magic spells when she gains levels, unlike the other characters in the game, with
the
exception of Celes.
Locke Cole is the world's greatest treasure hunter (thief), and resents being called
otherwise. He is the
daring hero who saves Terra from the empire's troops in the beginning of the game. He uses
the steal
command, which robs an opponent of a treasure during battle. The steal command later
changes to
capture. Locke lost his love to the empire (supposedly) and is kinda pissed. He joined the
ressistance
group called the Returners to get back. He can use most swords and armour in the game, and
is a
fairly powerful character.
Mog shows up in different parts of the game to show how parts of the
game work. He
uses spears and some knifes, I think. He helps Locke save Terra in the beginning of the
game, and
joins your party later, if you can find him. His special skill is dance, which will choose
an attack or
effect from one of the eight terrains in the game. Like rage, dance will continue until
the end of the
battle or until Mog is killed. His friend, Umaro, will join you if you have Mog in your
party.
Edgar Roni Figaro is the King of Figaro castle. He won his kingdom in a coin toss against
his brother. The empire
poisoned his father and Edgar joined the Returners. He is also a mechanic, and uses tools
in battle.
The autocrossbow is at his disposal at the beginning of the game, but he can aquire the
flash, drill, air
anchor, chainsaw, bio blaster, noise blaster, and . . . another one that I can't remember
right now. He
also helps you escape from Kefka.
Kefka causes more trouble than he's worth. you first see him in the desert, right before
he sets Figaro
on fire. He is looking for Terra, who escaped in the beginning of the game. Kefka was the
first of
three magitek knights. Kefka was infused before the process was complete, and something in
his
mind snapped. General Leo refused the infusion, which I think maybe he shouldn't have
done. He
might be alive if he didn't. And Celes was the third. She turns traitor and joins the
returners later.
Kefka can still use magic, and you fight him three times in the game. He is the last boss,
too.
Shadow (Arrowny) is an assasin who travels with his dog, interceptor. He has nightmares in
his dreams later in
the game. Shadow was originally a simple thief, who had a not so simple plan which went
very
wrong, and got his best friend killed. Shadow uses the throw command which allows him to
throw a
weapon or star. This can be useful in certain situations because it causes more damage
than a normal
attack. Shadow can join you four times in the game, or not at all. The first time is in
Sabin's scenario.
After that, he can join you before you go to Zozo. The third time is on the floating
continent, and the
fourth (keep in mind that you MUST wait for Shadow on the floating continent, until there
are only 5
seconds left on the timer) is after you get the striker, go and bet it in the colloseum
and if you win,
Shadow will join you.
Sabin Rene Figaro lives in the mountains training with Vargas under their master. He is
Edgar's younger brother
and has been away from the castle for quite some time. Sabin can use blitz attacks, which
are martial
arts techniques. He left to train in the mountains after the empire poisoned his father
and he lost the
kingdom, or rather gained his freedom in a coin toss. Sabin joins your party after you
defeat Vargas.
Bannon is the leader of the Returners, the secret organization that is fighting against
the empire. He
joins you after a meeting in the Returner's hideout. He also gives you a genjii glove.
Bannon uses his
health command to restore the party's health. He leaves after Terra's scenario, but I've
heard rumors
that he can become a permanent part of your party.

Cyan Garamonde joins you during Sabin's scenario. He uses sword techniques, eight in all.
Cyan's family and
kingdom were all poisoned by Kefka. Only Cyan, and one other gaurd lived. Cyan attacked
the
empire, and Sabin, and Shadow, if he joined, help Cyan. Cyan is perhaps one of the least
usefullcharacters in the game, but thats my opinion.
Gau saves you after falling down from the waterfall. He can use the rage command, perhaps
the best
attack in the game. He can learn almost every opponent's attacks. This becomes time
consuming, but
so was writing this. It's worth it. Gau's father threw him out of his house at a very
young age, and Gau
has lived with the animals ever since. Along with Gau, you will see Kappa's first
apperance. Gau also
gives you the diving helmet, which is useful only one time in the game.
Celes Chere is one of three generals of Emperor Geshtal. Kefka and Leo are the other two.
Celes, like
Terra, can use the gift of magic. Unlike Terra, Celes was artifcially infused with magic
by Cid. Celes
will learn magic as she levels. Her other special attack is runic. Some swords will allow
her to absorb
all magic spells cast that turn as magic points. This can be annoying when casting cure
spells. She can
also use most swords.
Setzer Gabbiani is the owner of the worlds only two airships. He is also a gambler. He
uses cards and dice to
batter enemies, and his slot command. This is my favorite extra. There are eight or so
combinations
that Setzer can get, each having a different effect. Setzer has no quarrel with the
empire, in fact, the
empire made him rich. He is also in love with Maria, an opera singer who looks remarkably
like
Celes. Setzer joins you after being tricked out of his services.
Strago Magus is an old man who is part of the ancient mage knights. He can learn the
attacks of some
enemies after seeing them. Strago lives in a city that I can't spell, and lives with his
'grand daughter',
Relm. Strago at first tries to hide his magical abilities, but after you save Relm from a
fire he joins you.
He is not one of the more effective characters, however, because he can only use rods and
such as
weapons. I usually leave him on the airship.
Relm Arrowny is the daughter of Shadow, and the 'grand daughter' of Strago. She is an
artist, and brings her
paintings to life. Her special skill is sketch, which makes a mirror of an enemy and
attacks it. If you
have the fake moustache then her attack changes to control, where you can decide which
skill of the
monster you want to use. Relm gets along with intercepter remarkably well, and does pretty
well with
Ultros, too. She joins you after Strago.
General Leo is the empire's best soldier. He is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, the perfect
boyscout. He
refused a magitek infusion long ago, and dang well got himself killed because of it. Leo
helps you find
the espers and make peace with them. Then when Kefka comes along, Leo gets killed. His
special
attack is shock, a pretty powerful attack. I've heard rumours that he can come back and
join your
party, from walking around in Figaro desert with Terra at level 99, from fighting a
thousand battles in
the forest above the veldt. If anyone can enlighten me, I'd be happy to know.
Umaro is a rather large hairy sasquatch. He is Mog's friend, and joins you only if you
have Mog. He
also has a esper with him. He joins after a battle with him in the caves behind Narshe,
where Tritoch
is. I bet I spelt that one wrong. Umaro is very powerful, and especially useful in the
finatic's tower,
where you can't fight. Umaro is always raged, and can't be controlled.
Gogo is the most useful character in the game. He can mimic anyone's movement. He/she can
also
mimic someone's special ability, so you can mix and match your characters. Gogo is in the
depths of
a zone eater on the triangle island in the world of ruin. All you have to do to get him is
make it
through the zone eater alive, and then back out. It is also rumored that he/she is
Daryl.(Setzer's Friend)
