Most pictures on this site is in Gif format. I think it´s the best for this kind of pictures, they get NO change in the quality. For pictures with more than 256 colours, I use JPG. That way I don´t loose any colors. The pictures that are ripped from the games are ripped by me, and they are in no way manipulated by me. I want 100% pure original pictures!
