Joy Division, Light And Blindness 12"
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Dead Souls 12" (6:08)

Someone take these dreams away,
that point me to another day,
A duel of personalities,
that stretch all true realities,

They keep calling me,they keep calling me,
keep on calling me, they keep calling me,

Where figures from the past stand tall,
and mocking tones ring through the halls,
Imperialistic house of prayer,
conquistadors that took their share,

They keep calling me,they keep calling me,
keep on calling me, they keep calling me,

Another day another time,
dreams can't stop or rectify,
but points to a living scene,
it draws me in keeps calling me,

keeps calling me, keeps calling me,
keeps calling me, keeps calling me,

C-a-l-l-i-n-g m-e, c-a-l-l-i-n-g m-e,
c-a-l-l-i-n-g m-e, c-a-l-l-i-n-g m-e,

Calling me, calling me,
Calling me, calling me,

They keep calling me,they keep calling me,
keep on calling me, they keep calling me,

Keep calling me, keep calling me,

Atmosphere 12" (5:38)

Walk, in silence, don't walk away, in silence,
See the danger, always danger,
Endless talking, life rebiulding,
Don't walk away, face the danger,

Walk, in silence, don't turn away, in silence,
See the danger, always danger,
Rules are broken, false emotions,
Don't walk away, face the danger,

People like you, find it easy,
Always in tune, walking on air,
They're hunting in packs by the rivers through the streets,
It may happen soon then maybe you'll care,
Walk away, walk away, from danger,

Im, im just crossing the line, just crossing the line,
Trying to get back, back where i was, back where i was,
See you crossing the line,
Don't walk away, in silence,
Don't walk away, from danger,
Don't turn away, in silence,
Don't turn away, from danger,

Don't walk away, don't walk away,
Don't walk away, don't walk away,
Face the danger,

Just crossing the line, just crossing the line,

Atmosphere (3:56)

Walk, in silence, don't walk away, in silence,
See the danger, always danger,
Endless talking, life rebiulding,
Don't walk away,

Walk, in silence, don't turn away, in silence,
Your confusion, my illusion,
Worn like a mask of self-hate, confronts and then dies,
Don't walk away,

People like you, find it easy,
Naked to see, walking on air,
Hunting by the rivers through the streets,
Every corner abandoned too soon, set down with due care,

Don't walk away, in silence, don't walk away,

Light And Blindness

Side A: Atmosphere 12"
Atmosphere
Side A: Dead Souls 12"
Dead Souls

All tracks produced by Matin Hannett,
and recorded at Cargo Studios, Oldham.

Written by Ian Curtis, Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris.

Sleeve: 12" gatefold c/w original artwork and text.

Notes: The lyrics for the 12" versions of Atmosphere/Dead Souls came from demos that the band did (these demos are available on cd3 of their Heart And Soul box set),i took these lyrics, spliced them with the original versions of Atmosphere/Dead Souls from the Licht Und Blindheit package, to create the above 12" versions. Unfortunately Joy Division never recorded proper versions of the demos, which is pity because had they done so they would've been brilliant, which is why i decided to take it upon myself to do just that, anyway, i hope you enjoy it and agree that what i've done is not sacrilege.

ARTIST: Joy Division
TITLE: Warsaw
REVIEW: First of all this isn't a proper album, its an "offical" bootleg; a collection of JDs early "Warsaw"-era stuff such as their An Ideal For Living E.P. and their RCA LP demo session. The first 11 songs on the album are those which were recorded for the RCA LP and -with the exception of Transmission and Novelty -are nothing but pure punk, the album opens with The Drawback which is brilliant throughout especially Stephen Morris' excellent drum fills. The next few songs are good but nothing to write home about until you get to Transmission, which is unfortunately the weakest song on this album -don't get me wrong the "proper" version is EXCELLENT, but this demo is just poor; Ians vocals are boring and sounds like hes got better things to be doing, Hooky's bass is slow and sloppy and the song never really gets going, this is the albums lowpoint. However all the damage caused by Transmission is forgiven by one of the following songs; Interzone, this is the sheer raw power of Joy Division unleashed, this demo version is FAR better than the proper version recorded on Uknown Pleasures from Bernard Sumners aggressive guitar riff to Ians brilliant vocal performance, this song is pure genius. Although most of these songs can be found elsewhere, the versions on display here are -in my opinion- better, more representative of JDs earlier "thrashier" career. Also included are; As You Said from their free-giveaway Komakino flexi, and Inside The Line, Gutz, At a Later Date, The Kill and You're no Good For Me from their first ever demo sessions.

Overall rating: 8/10 Overall review: Casual fans could do without but for those obsessed with the works of Messrs Curtis, Sumner, Hook and Morris, this is a must.
