Final Fantasy VIII Release Dates
[ October 16th 11.16 GMT]
Final Fantasy VIII United Kingdom Release Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), European publishers of Final Fantasy VIII, have stated that October
27th is the set date for a UK release. They have also stated, despite claims earlier in the year that all games will stay
below 40, that they will be suggesting a price of 44.99 ($74.99 US Dollars) to retailers. SCEE comment that this is
because of the 'high development costs' and the 4 CDs it comes on - something which never affected the North
American or Japanese release price for some reason. However, some large chain shops have said that they will be
offering 'competitive prices', so if you go out to buy the PAL release, you should shop around.
Not only do UK gamers have to put up with inflated prices (not just for games), a PAL conversion means reduced
frame rate and 'letter-box' borders. Therefore, we would definitely recommend not buying the PAL release and
instead buy an American import.

Final Fantasy VIII Arranged Soundtrack
[ October 6th 23.14 GMT]
It seems that Square have predictibly decided to release an orchestrated
campanion album to Final Fantasy VIII's soundtrack, as they did with previous Final Fantasies.
Unfortunately, no track listings are available as of yet,
but various sites are hinting at a November 21st release in North America.
Good news for Uematsu fans, who will surely be hoping for more tracks than the
Final Fantasy VII Reunion Tracks offered.

Final Fantasy VIII PC News
[ September 30th 22.14 GMT]
A small article in a US publication "Computer Gaming Magazine", gave a bit of information on the forth-coming PC
version of Final Fantasy VIII:
- The team in charge of FF8 PC have made a better use of "Direct-3D". The combat scenes are
"top-notch" even surpassing FF7 PC. The visual and facial close-ups are better than ever (with 3D acceleration, of course).
- The 2D rendered background is not re-rendered in high-resolution to avoid loading times, but it is
passing through a special filter to make it look as sharp and beautiful as the PSX version.
- The FMV sequences : The team has learned from their mistakes in FF7 PC (ugly AVI... remember
those?). The movies are now "state of the art". You can have them in "high or low resolution", but the
difference between those two options are barely noticable... To make it short, the movies are equal
to the quality we found in the PSX version.
- For the sound, they're going for the software synthetiser route again... But with new enhancements : DLS (voice implements and digital sound). I guess
a SB Live or Awe 64 will do the trick for the rest.
FFIX Unveiling in November
[ September 21st 22.45 GMT ]
While everyone was hoping Square would show something of FFIX at this Autumn's Tokyo Game Show, there was nothing to be seen of the game.
Almost During a show reel for a forthcoming press conference - apparantly detailing Square's upcoming PS2 releases, a huge 'IX' symbol remained for around 5 seconds.
Though Square didn't comment on the matter, it was a little too blatant for it not to be taken seriously. The showing will take place on November 23rd, a mere two months after FFVIII's US release and an even more megre 1 month after its forthcoming European release.
Along with this, there's also a confirmation by Square that the 'PS2 Final Fantasy' will be network compatible.
This doesn't neccesarily mean it'll be an online RPG, rather that it'll be 'expandable' in some way.
It's doubtful that this game is FFIX as it's supposedly scheduled for a March 2001 release. And as many should know - DigiCube has already confirmed FFIX for early next year on PlayStation,
something that Square has never denied. So, could this be FFX? The mind boggles. Other rumours suggest that FFIX may not even be called 'Final Fantasy IX' for innovation's sake.
God only knows what the hell Square are up to; and with a bit of luck, all will be revealed come November.

Various Pieces of FFVIII News
[ September 11th 23.25 GMT ]
The first, and most important piece of news is that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have finally announced the official UK/European launch date for Final Fantasy VIII: October 27th.
This is great news for European gamers who were previously worried as to when exactly we would see the game... and the date is, pleasently, a little earlier than first rumoured ('Sometime in November').
The second piece of news is actually an update to a previous news article: The Final Fantasy VIII debug code.
