What is Big Brothers and Big Sisters?.

Come join us and learn about our world.

Big Brothers - Big Sisters is a non-profit organization that provides children from single parent families with a Big Brother or a Big Sister which acts as a positive role model and friend.

Who are Little Brothers and Little Sisters?

Little Brothers and Sisters are children from single parent families.
Who are like any other group of children,
some may be having problems,
but most just want an adult friend.

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE?
The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Shelburne County are caring, responsible adults from any walk of life, who are willing to spend a few hours a week with a child.

WHAT DO WE DO TOGETHER?
You do whatever you enjoy. "Bigs" and "Littles" meet for a few hours a week as friends. They go for a walk, take in a movie or a ball game, bake cookies or just sit and talk

Sports activities are fun for everyone.

What Responsibilities Would I Have?
The only responsibility is to provide a one to one friendship with a child. Big Brothers and Big Sisters are not professional counselors or disciplinarians.

How Do You Know We'll Like Each Other?
Big Brothers and Big Sisters board members carefully "match" volunteers and children.
Every effort is made to pair children and adults with similar interests.

What Does It Cost?
"Bigs" are encouraged to keep spending to a minimum. The service involves no fee for the children and parents.

Is It Worth It?
You will share experiences with a child and have a great time expanding both your interests. A life long friend and the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a real contribution to our community.

VOLUNTEER TOGETHER

Couples wishing to be part of the program should be at least 20 years of age and have been together for at least a year. Both partners should be committed to volunteering and spending a few hours a week with their Little Brother or Little Sister. Couples in the program usually spend about 80% of the time together with their Little Brother or Sister, allowing some time with one adult.
