Powerslide is, according to the corporate line, an unbelievably fast and graphically dynamic tour de racing force. Designed with a state of the art engine that delivers animation at 60 frames per second, Powerslide will challenge players to race throughout an array of terrains, each filled with huge jumps, treacherous turns and high speed action.
 

Designed by Emergent Software, Powerslide is set 20 years in the future. At the end of the twentieth century, an environmental holocaust has devastated society as we know it. Holes in the ozone layer, global warming and pollution have destroyed vegetation and food supplies, hurtling mankind towards oblivion. To escape the harsh environment, the middle and upper classes moved underground and built vast modern cities, while the poor were left on the surface to fend for themselves. Once again, racing has become an exciting sport as players join the ultimate race between classes.

Features include:

• The Difference Engine - Emergent Software's proprietary technology that allows players to experience 300,000 polygons per second at an always constant 60 frames of animation per second;
• Optimized for today's leading 3D accelerator cards, yielding highly detailed graphics;
• Incredible speed and responsiveness, resulting in a very realistic off-road racing experience;
• Highly detailed racing tracks with wide lanes and multiple surfaces including sand dunes, swamps, mud and broken ground;
• Dynamic weather conditions that will alter race conditions, including sand storms that cover tracks and hard rain which makes them very slippery;
• Non-linear racing that allows players to drive over any surface type or object, including the sides of walls. Players can also get up on two wheels and roll their vehicles;
• Stunt features, including high risk jumps, severe drop-offs, car crunching barrel rolls and tunnels, requiring players to race on walls and ceilings to negotiate corners;
• Highly intelligent CPU artificial intelligence, whereby the computer will race as competitively as human opponents;
• Multi-player game play through LANs and the Internet.

CHEATS

These are cheats for the Powerslide demo. Type the following while you are driving:

• Blast: Repels the other cars
• Glider :Glides
• Spider: Carcan drive on any surface
• Sleep: AI cars do not steer
• Apollo: If you press the "Alt" key while in apollo cheat mode that provides your car with engine thrust to fly like the lunar lander that was on the moon
• Timewarp: Turbo
• Lunar: Low gravity
• Hover: Hovercar mode

• Custom cup - lets you create a championship with your own schedule of tracks and number of laps.
• New multiplayer interface, with the ability to do multiplayer championships and custom cups.
• Support for Heat, Wireplay and other proprietary networks via DirectPlay Lobby support.
• Ability to join a multiplayer race while people are racing.
• Command line options can be entered via a text file, which in itself can be modified using a provided utility.

• Some Direct3D problems.
• Force feedback problem.
• Problems with lap-tracking (ie ability to get short times on SandBlaster, etc).
• Problems with EAX sound cards with release drivers (may also help with problems on some other types of sound cards).
• Dashboard/loading screen corruption on Voodoo Rush video cards (as well as 'grsstopen failed' error message on Voodoo Rush at 1024x768).
• Possible hang during multiplayer games if one of the other players crashes or experiences problems.
• Problems with slow mouse movement in menus, on some video cards.
