San Francisco RUSH

by Atari Games Corporation

GAME DESCRIPTION (From Atari's Site)

SF RUSH combines an unparalleled level of realism, racing excitement and game depth that provide an experience unlike that found in any other driving game. Experience the excitement and challenge of racing up and down the scenic air-catching hills of San Francisco.

FEEL THE RACE as the force-feedback steering wheel simulates the challenge of real racing conditions. Spectacular explosions and crashes are punctuated by an 8-inch woofer placed in your seat. A clutch pedal accompanies the four speed shifter to provide another dimension of racing challenge. Each of the eight race cars has one of four unique handling characteristics. Everything from a simple and forgiving driving game to a full blown EXTREME simulated race car.

JUMP across rooftops, through sewers, and falling off suspended freeways... that's right, SF RUSH offers spectacular and novel hidden shortcuts buried in each track. These shortcuts offer a challenging way for players to get an edge over their opposing drivers.

This Game will support the 3DFX voodoo chipset for 3D acceleration.

"Well we just learnt that San Francisco Rush has been pushed for a Q2 98 release or so, according to rumours it was being held back to provide an arcade perfect translation for Voodoo 2, i'll let you know if the story is true, i'm gettin in touch with Bria n Bruning and Midway as we speak, so stay tuned."

"Got an answer from Brian Bruning regarding the delay:

Don't have a current status.  I think things are being held up while Midway/GT/Atari figure out the PC rights.  Bummer when an awesome game gets held up for non-technical issues!

Brian

There's still hope from Midway, as we're waiting for their reply on the issue, so stay tuned..."

NEWS!

If you ever want to get San Francisco Rush: Alcatraz edition on your PC you will have to buy the new Quantum Raven 2D/3D card based on the 3DFX Voodoo Banshee chipset. So the game does exist on the PC but has code to limit it to run on this card (not that it couldn't run on other 3D hardware). You can find out more about this card at http://www.quantum3d.com .

OLD News

(From Operation 3DFX)
UGP got an exclusive on the long awaited port for the pc, San Francisco Rush:

Originally slated to be released last year by GT Interactive, San Francisco Rush, the popular Midway arcade game which runs on 3Dfx's Obsidian hardware has been canned for PC. Instead, its arcade sequel, SF Rush: The Rock, will be ported to the PC this year by Midway itself. The game will support 3Dfx graphic accelerators on the PC and will allegedly be a carbon-copy of its arcade brother. SF Rush: The Rock will also support up to eight players via LAN or Internet.

There's no release date confirmed yet, however UGP got information that developement will begine once the GT Interactive issue is solved... "

Well if it does not come out on PC, then people with a fast 3D accelerator (like 3DFX) and a 200 Mhz Pentium or better may be able to play the Nintendo 64 version with an emulator (Project Unreality), or the Playstation version with an emulator.
