GAME DESCRIPTION
(From Next Generation Online)
"Sierra Sports describes its Viper Racing game as a serious take on racing, and its hard to doubt their word. How else could you describe a game with virtual cars so complete, even the starter is modeled?
Viper is aiming for real-world feel, and designers
have taken a head-long plunge at recreating the feeling of racing a super
sports car. Several portions of the cars have been painstakingly recreated.
The whole drive train, the transmission, the engine, even, as we said,
the starter – all have been modeled to make the cars behave as realistically
as possible.
Detailed geometry and math formulas were used to allow for complex physical modeling as well, right down to how much the tires on your car degrade as the race goes on. Perhaps this detail shows itself best in the game's sophisticated damage modeling. Scrape your way down a guardrail, and you'll see scrapes in the paint. Slide off the road and over rough terrain, and your suspension could be history. Bang into that driver in front of you, and your headlights and hood will look it. Crash into a wall too hard, and your tires will point ways they were never intended to.
And even though designers still are working hard
on finishing Viper, the game's graphics and driving physics already are
top-notch. With 3D acceleration, the game runs smoothly, and worlds appear
realistic. The tracks themselves have water, mountains, bridges – everything
to keep it interesting. The entire track worlds are modeled, too, so you
won't be pushed back onto the road after hitting the edge of the shoulder.
Viper's AI has been tuned, too, so your computer counterparts on the road must abide by the same strict physics models that you must. The designers have promised: No computer car cheating.
The game features an arcade mode, for those who want to jump right in, and a simulation mode, with all the trials and tribulations of reality. The heart of the game will be a career mode, with three leagues. The object, of course, is to work your way up through the ranks and ultimately end up on top.
Gamers will be able to adjust just about everything on the car, from shocks, to wheels, to tires, to the drive train, to aerodynamics. The game's garage will put you in almost total control.
Viper Racing looks to be a serious contender in the crowded PC racing market, so keep your eyes peeled for its planned October release."
