FF6 Strategies
Equipment Combinations
Equip Umaro with a Gauntlet, and his attack power skyrockets. (As if it wasn't high enough already!)
Equip the Sneak Ring and Thief Glove on Locke.
Equip the Ribbon on the same person with the Cursed Shield or Cursed Ring. (Duh!!!)
Give Sabin 2 Hero Rings, and Bum Rush will do 9999 damage almost every time.
Keep an Economizer or Gold Hairpin on Terra or Celes.
You should rarely put Gogo and Umaro in the same party. It will always screw up your mimics. Umaro has a nasty habit of attacking right before Gogo gets a chance to. It really screws you for what you want to mimic. It's annoying when you want to Mimic Ultima, but just use an attack instead.
When climbing the Fanatic's tower, use Umaro, your two strongest magic users, and Gogo with Fight and Magic abilities added (You need Fight, because THAT is what becomes Magic in battle, and you need Magic because that is what lets you use Magic outside of battle)
When Gau has Leapt on the Veldt, don't have Umaro in your party, and don't have Mog dance, because they can possibly hit Gau when he appears, but before he rejoins your party. If this happens, he'll run off, and you'll have to wait to get him back.
When choosing Special Abilities for Gogo, know who's in your party, and choose abilities that they don't have. Gogo can just Mimic them doing it. Also, Fight isn't worth wasting a slot on, but Magic is well worth it.
The absolute BEST place to level up is in the forest shaped like a dinosaur head north of the Veldt. Also, the Brachosaur and Tyranosaur have the best Rages for Gau. (Ultima and Meteor) The only problem is the Brachosaur will often sneeze away your entire party before you can defeat him. Just keep at it. When you need a HP/MP boost head to Gau's father's house and sleep.
Vanish/Doom Trick
When Vanish is cast on someone, the probability of a physical attack hitting them is nil, but the probability of a magic attack hitting them is around 97%. So by casting Vanish on an enemy, followed by Doom, you can be rid of them very easily! This even works on some bosses!
Good Parties
This is a section I'm putting in to tell you what characters mesh well in parties. It's good to have at least one strong fighter, one strong magic user, and two characters with Special Moves that you like. The higher on the chart a group is, the more I like it. (As Gogo is the most versatile character, he's always in my party. In the World of Balance, substitute someone to keep the party balanced.)
Sabin | Gogo | Terra | Mog |
Sabin | Gogo | Locke | Mog |
Sabin | Gogo | Terra | Locke |
Sabin | Gogo | Celes | Gau |
Sabin | Gogo | Strago | Locke |
Sabin | Gogo | Shadow | Terra |
Sabin | Gogo | Gau | Strago |
Sabin | Gogo | Shadow | Mog |
This is the setup I like to take when I'm in the Phoenix Cave
Sabin | Gogo | Celes | Mog |
Edgar | Cyan | Terra | Strago |
This is the setup I like to take into the Final Dungeon.
Sabin | Locke | Terra | Gau |
Edgar | Mog | Strago | Umaro |
Cyan | Gogo | Celes | Shadow |
If you couldn't tell, I don't like Relm at ALL! (The sketch bug renders her useless for special attacks, because you don't know if the game will freeze or not. It's a bigger gamble that Setzer's Slot attack is) Setzer is an okay character, but there are other characters that I like better, and use much more frequently.
