"It may be a desert, but it's my damn desert and you'd better get your squatting ass of it before I turn it into one freakin' ugly part of the scenery!"- Cpt. Joseph "Sunslinger" Loseer, Ground Zero Security |
"You think this is a game? Good, then this won't hurt at all..."
- Maravic Polonienski, Ground Zero resident and militia member |
Ground Zero Real Estate Corporation, under charter of the Imperial Terran Government, remains the sole owner of the lands contained in the Alpha partition of Sector 411, Venus, along with all associated rights, including but not limited to mining and other construction projects. Any attempts to gain unauthorized access to the territory in said areas will result in prosecution. Armed incursions will be halted by force. Ground Zero furthermore remains under the jurisdiction and protection of the Terran government, and therefore will not tolerate any form of seditious solicitations, nor will it fail to inform the Imperial authorities of any known insurgent activity in or around its premises. You have been warned; authorized personnel only beyond this point!
Ground Zero Real Estate Corporation is one of Venus' leading mining and regional terraforming companies. Located in the Alpha partition of Venus Sector 411, the several hundred square kilometers belonging to Ground Zero are dotted with mines, residential biospheres, agridomes, and an increasing number of defensive military installations.
Founded in 2753, before the recent rash of rebellions, Ground Zero originally derived its name (then Ground Zero Mining Corporation) from the flat plain that makes up the foundation for Ground Zero's headquarters facilities, an area so flat and barren that it looked as if it had been cleared by a nuclear explosion. In its early years, the corporation encountered many financial difficulties, as is to be expected. However, as popularity grew in popular Venusian culture, Ground Zero began to come to the attention of wealthy Terran benefactors who had never observed the quaint little mining operation before. This sustatined the company for a few months as a desperate decision was made to excavate two new mining sites. Upon the discovery of major deposists of industrial-quality crystalline deposits deep beneath the surface of Ground Zero Plains, the operation became an overnight success. The ensuing months saw a major struggle as rich and powerful Terran-based corporations vied for control over the tiny, yet potent mining colony. The final outcome was unheard of. The colonists had pulled strings, taken out loans, and called in every favor they had in order to retain control of their colony and the mining entity itself. Control of Ground Zero stayed in the hands of its original workers. And so it is, to this very day, that the same man who founded Ground Zero's first colony and struck the first shovelfull of soil is still in control of the corporation to this very day. Finding the new success quite enjoyable, but realizing that the supply of crystal would not last forever, the continuing CEO of Ground Zero, with the full support of his board and colonists, opened the site up to leased colonization. Ground Zero Real Estate Corp. now rents out apartment space for miners and nonmining commercial residents alike, leading to the formation of the colony's modern-day structure, known systemwide to be one of the few settlements on Venus that is actually growing despite the impending crisis.
Unfortunately, it now seems that the future will hold Ground Zero's greatest challenge yet, a share of the great test that mankind itself must pass. For several years now, Ground Zero has been the target of increasingly bold rebel raids against the crystal mines, the spoils of which are used to produce laser-focusing equipment. In the name of preventing this piracy, and furthermore for the sake of the Imperial well-being, Ground Zero has instituted a new branch of its structure. Joining the previous branches of mining and residential commerce is the third and final leg of Ground Zero's society: Ground Zero Security Forces. It is hoped colony-wide that this newly instituted organization can work to effectively halt the rebel raids on local mines, and eventually repel Cybrid attacks, as everyone in the colony knows it is only a matter of time... and judging by the strange new weapons appearing on rebel vehicles, that time has come. Ground Zero has entered the war.

Name: Ross Higashi Callsign: Lemming Bio: Born on Terra Mater and brought up like any normal Imperial citizen, it was fate that cast him into his current role as head of Ground Zero. At the age of 23, he applied for entry into the Terran Defense Force in order to prove his loyalty to the Empire, and was admitted. However, an apparent lack of potential led to his transfer to the Imperial Police Force in the hinterlands of Venus. During his brief service there before his eventual honorable discharge, he not only met several people who would become instrumental in his ascent to corporate preeminence, but he acquired a love for the Venusian landscape that nobody else in recent history seems to have shared. The combination of his newfound free status and his nearly fanatic felicity to the yellow planet could lead to only one thing: he moved to Venus permanently... the rest is history. |
