Dragon Warrior II

Dragon Warrior II Dragon Warrior II was a novelty when it first arrived. It had new features that the first did not. Including a whopping three characters to play as. The unusual thing about these characters is that their names are generated randomly from a given set of names, based on the name you gave the hero. A major problem with this game was its difficulty. This game was no where near the simpicity of the first. Another big problem was that you had little to no guidence. Many game players got lost and gave up in this one.

The title screen featured an animated introduction.

A major difference of this one is the fact that the overworld is much, much larger than in the first. The overworld was aproximatly five times the size as in the first Dragon Warrior.

Oh, my, look! The castles are four times the size as in the original.

The battles in Dragon Warrior II were much more complex than in the first. Even though the backgrounds were lacking, a person could face many enemies at one time. A minor flaw with this system was that you couldn't choose the enemy to attack. Your party members would randomly attack, frequently hitting the wrong enemy, and ultimately leading to your defeat.

Black and white? What the heck is this junk?

Dragon Warrior II featured a better command list that was a bit easier to use than the first. It also eliminated some annoying tasks of the first. No longer does one have to select stairs to go up and down stairs.

An improvement? Some say yes...others, no.

The Story

Story Gameplay Graphics Sound Overall
5.1 6.0 7.0 8.0 7.3

Even though these don't factor out to be 7.3, I gave it this score simply because it is a reletivly fun game. The graphics are basic RPG style, and the story is very bland; but that is expected for one of the first RPGs ever made. The sound has a nice ring to it and isn't annoying like many games of this time. I recommend a buy at a used video game store, not for the sake of it being awesome, but just for the sake of owning a classic RPG.
