Cat Gallery

Here are a couple of pictures of a very nice
cat that came to live with us when only a kitten.
We were told that it was a male cat. I figured that
who ever told us this knew of what he spoke.
This is Bud. Turns out, after Bud went into heat,
and I took a peek to confirm, that Bud was actually female.
When we took her to the vet I had renamed her to Rosebud.
Here is Rosebud sitting on her favorite scratch post.
I'll miss Rosebud. Sadly, the caretaker of the apartment building
we lived in didn't like cats and poisoned her.
Here is another female cat named Smokey that came to live with
us after Rosebud. Smokey was a stray that someone had found and posted
a classified. No one claimed her so we took her in. This cat would eat
just about anything. On the right, she didn't seem too pleased when we
brought Kira and Sasha home. Smokey ran away from home,
came back about ten days later and had developed dementia. She was in
good physical health, but who ever took her in must have treated her badly.
She began attacking the other kitties and so we thought it best to bring her
to the local SPCA.
Here are Kira and Sasha as kittens. They were the only two left out of the
litter. We had responded to a local posting about these two to give to a good home.
We are still good friends with the couple that gave us these beauties to love and cherish.
Kira, female, and Sasha, male, jumped out of the carrying case we brought them home in
and immediately took possession of their new place.
On the left you can see here that they were truly happy kittens and we loved them
as much as they loved each other. They just couldn't get enough play it seemed. Funny too
was how they just flopped where they were as soon as they got spleepy. On the right Sasha
is very interested in watching the tube. He had this fascination with Bugs Bunny I guess.
Perhaps we should have named him Sylvester instead. He sort of looks like that 'thuper thar'
of 'toon land.
Sasha seems to want inside the TV to become part of the show. Well, he did become part
of a show of sorts. He couldn't understand where that sound was coming from. Maybe if he got
a closer look he could find out and have some more fun.
Well, we took good care of Kira and Sasha, and they took good care of themselves. As
nature must take care of itself, Kira and Sasha mated and had a beautiful litter of
kittens. We were concerned that being themselves from the same litter that their
kittens might have problems. I am happy to say not so. However, we decided to give Sasha
away so that we wouldn't find ourselves with another litter. We managed to give away all
but two of Kira's litter. Kira was a beautiful mother, and we acted as midwives for her.
One of the kittens was still-born. Kira realized this and periodically checked it for signs
of life, but concentrated on giving birth to the other kittens. The two kittens we kept were
Nipper and Ashes. That's nipper on the right with her favorite toy, a thick
piece of rope. On the left is Kira with Nipper and Ashes.
Here are a couple of snaps of Ashes. One of her on the scratch post and the other of her
in our bed. I didn't set this picture up. I came into the bedroom and found her like this.
I thought it was so cute that I took a picture. Ashes always likes to go under blankets,
but I never thought she would cover herself and use a pillow as well. Ashes is a real
sweetie, but sometimes she can be a real stuckup. So there are Kira and her daughters
Nipper and Ashes. About a year after Nipper and Ashes came on the scene, I went to visit
a friend who got a kitten for Christmas. She made a mistake in that she really couldn't
take care of another (and baby makes three) cat. When Dax first saw me she made a
bee-line for me, attached herself to my leg, and began suckeling and purring like I have
never heard a cat purr before. I instantly fell in love with this kitten. You can see her
with the other cats as they eat their supper in the photo below. They are from left to
right Ashes, Dax, Kira and Nipper. Interestingly enough, they get the dining table and
we eat off the coffee table. We love our cats dearly.
