Help!!!I am unexperienced and I wonder how to use muds, as I heard you can find wonderful text mode rpgs there??
That is why we are here.We are gonna help you:
-First you must have a telnet starter(most have at least telnet.exe in C:\WINDOWS or in his own windows 95 or 98 directory).
-Ensure you know the site and the telnet port of the mud you want to go(e.g: myr.mudservices.com 9999.Sometimes you can find a link which will automatically open telnet, which however doesn't work on every computer)
-Start telnet.exe or another mud program(I personnaly use Zugg's mud 5.22 SW).
The following lines consider you are using Telnet:
-On the menu
choose connect, then the first option(I use a french version, and
I don't know how it is called in English, perhaps Internet
system).A set of three options must appear:
//host name: the name of the website(in our example,
myr.mudservices.com)
//Port: the port: delete the word telnet and type the port number
in the box(in our example 9999)
//Terminal type:Leave it as it is:vt100.Its use is to enable
older terminals, and non-ANSI ones. You must know most muds are
vt100s.However if your mud doesn't work in vt100 and you aren't
behind a firewall, try the other types).
-Click on connect and play it.
-Most commands are like n,e,s,w, get (object), kill(monstrer) different on every mud.First thing you must do is to type help newbie when your character is created, to see how to use different commands.
Note to
firewall/proxi users:
Some programs, like Wingate 2.1a are quite difficult to
configure to use telnet. That is why most installers beg that you
don't know telnet and don't install telnet device. If you cannot
start any telnet from your station, try then to start it when
directly connected to a phone line.Even if Wingate 2.1a is well
configurated, you'll have to make a different configuration for
each telnet mud.(I personally tried to use telnet with Wingate
2.1a but I failed).
