When I approached the Whark Gallows across the plank from the catwalk, the cursur would change to a look up icon in the top portion of one of the screens. However, clicking with the look up cursor icon did nothing. Presumably, the missing "look up" view would be a shot of the skull sculpture adorning the gallows. Is this shot in the DVD version? Nope, there was never a lookup shot for that screen. While putting Riven together, adding hotspots was more difficult (time consuming) than deleting them, so I had each card default to automatically creating a left, right, up, down, and three forward hotspot, then I deleted the ones that weren't needed. There are a few of those default "look up" hotspots that didn't get deleted in the first version of Riven. These were removed later, and shouldn't be in the latest version of Riven CD-ROM or Riven DVD. After arriving at Survey Island via Maglev from Book Assembly Island, you can turn the Maglev 180, so you can get to the elevator to Gehn's underwater throne , but if you immediately decide to return to PaperMaking Island instead, you move the throttle forward, and... the Maglev moves forward >> without closing the door first << !! I always *duck* and expect the door to get violently ripped from the car as it passes through that narrow rock threshold. This really bothered me in the "early days" of Riven when I was thrashing around, before I learned my way around. Very observant! This MagCar anomoly is explained in detail in Gehn's book "Anomolies of The MagCar" Here's an excerpt from the chapter entitled "Sometimes the Door Closes Very Quickly and Silently": "...sometimes the door closes very quickly and silently..." I hope that clears this matter up. :) My big question on this page [Edge Hole 7] is , what is that picture taped to the wall on RAWA's desk?? At first glance it looks like a bug, but upon closer inspection it could be anything from an arachnid ({gasp} spyder??) to a room layout with hallways running off in various direction. It's placed so prominently in the picture that it's really hard to dismiss the paper as insignificant. It is a blown up photocopy of a stink bug which is _very_ common around here in the fall. His name is Larry (all stink bugs are named Larry (yes, even the females)- because their brains are so small they can't remember individual names for each other), and he and several billion (this is a slight exaggeration) of his friends invaded Rand's house when he and I worked on Myst in the back room of his trailer, and the garage when we were starting on Riven. The caption reads, "What bug? We don't see no stinking bug!" One mystery solved. |
