My least favorite limitations in Riven are the inability to so much as get your feet wet and the impossibility of climbing rocks. What is the problem with the terrain in Riven that keeps you from climbing a little? Is it all smooth and glassy? Sharp? Crumbly? There are strict rules we live by when doing game design one of which is: #72) For the safety of all the visitors, everyone must remain on clearly marked paths, except if a few cases, where there is no path, but we want you to go there anyway... At story-level, I'd stay out of the water (well the lake on Book Assembly island and the "Sunner Lagoon" should be safe), but the rocks would have been OK - just don't fall and hurt yourself. I also wouldn't have minded being able to GRAB GEHN'S GUN from his study at Book Assembly (it's lying there if you arrive there early in the game, but you can't touch it). I call this "forced honesty". We do not allow you to take anything in Riven that isn't given to you. |
