Settlers II FAQ
Always begin with barracks, lumberjacks, forest ranger's houses and one or two sawnills, so that you always have enough wood to build other things.
When planning your distribution network you must take into account both the site and the situation of your buildings. It would make little sense to build a bakery too far away from the mines, as bread is a sstaple part of the miner's diet. It also makes sense to have multiple routes to any given area, to help prevent merchandies from moving slowly when need most.
The flags designate the nodes of your pathway network. The distribution of goods is performed by the carriers who transport the merchandise between these two flags. The shorter this path is the faster the carrier is back again to take on another bundle of goods.
Check whether you can insert more flags into an existing stretch of road. This way the transportation capacity of this road can be increased many times over. The otherway is to raise donkeys. Donkeys are automatically put to use on your heavily burdened transportation paths to double the transportation capacity there.
First of all I always build barracks (they only need wood and are built fastest). After you spied out your enemy you only have to build watchtowers and fortresses, because they are easier to defend and the soldiers are faster upgraded.
First there's reconnaissance. The deeper you can peer into enemy territory, the more precisely you can plan countermeasures.Themost suitable reconnaissance tool is the lookout tower. This will allow you to see where your enemy has placed his military buildings. You can also use the scoutes to search the area around your border. Now when you have found the enemy it's time to build bigger military buildings. If you have a bigger military building it can protect they and their surrounding better. In a barack you can just have 2 soldiers to watch over their territory, but there can be as much as nine soldiers in a fortress. Of course that has its price. To recruit, train and motivat your soldiers you need swords, shields, goldcoins and beer. You therefore hav to find iron, coal and gold; erect an iron smelter, an armorer and a mint, you also have to plant grain and build a well to have water, and then set up a brewery who can made the beer.
You need a warehouse, which contains following things: 1 man 1 sword 1 shield 1 beer
In general soldiers are upgraded with goldcoins. Whith each coin one soldier from every different level raises one level. For example: You have a watchtower with 6 soldiers. With the first coin one soldier is upgraded from level 1 to level 2, with the scond coin this soldier is upgraded to level 2 and anotherone to level 1, ...
What do I need a catapult for?
The catapult is a very strong defensiv weapon, since it is capable of reducing even a large enemy border fortification to rubble without having to risk the lifes of your soldiers. With every hit that a catapult scores, the occupying strength of a building is reduced by one soldier. If the occupying strength reaches the value of zero, the building burns down. That has the positive side effect that the area around this buildng becomes free. Which means that your opponets can no longer attack so quickly. These territories also become free for you to settle. Therefore you can also use the catapult to prepare your own attack by bombarding the enemy fortresses, so that they are ready for storming. The catapult can only shoot on buildings with guards in, but not on the HeadQuarter and StoreHouse's. Not only is the catapault a good way of reducing the enemy's military power, but if you are allies, you remain allies after attacking them with a catapault.
