Settlers 2, The Story

The Settlers II - Veni, Vidi, Vici

The story begins on board the 'Tortius', a ship belonging to the 'Romans' which was on its way to one of the numerous Roman colonies. Precariously, its enormous stern swayed as it sailed through the "Sea of Storms", a treacherous area of the Latonian seas. The journey seemed to pass uneventfully and the passengers felt at ease.

One evening, however, clouds began to gather in the west-the first signs of an impending storm. Those on board began to feel restless, and all hurried to find a safe place for themselves and their families. It did not take long for the clouds, driven by the wind, to reach the Tortius. The raging storm was accompanied by mountainous waves which tossed the ship about like a match stick in the middle of the ocean.

Tossed back and forth and continuously lashed by the gale, the ship began to lose its course. Its masts were no longer able to support the sails and no human on board was able to steer it. And so it happened that the mast suddenly shattered and all the sails were ripped to shreds. The storm continued to rage without end; its deafening roar persisted into the following night.

The next day dawns.

As the first ray of sunlight penetrated the Tortius, everything was still. Not a breath of air could be felt and it seemed as if time itself had come to a stop. Slowly-and groaning pitifully-the first passengers awaken from their heavy sleep and struggle to their feet.

The once proud ship now resembles a wreck. No more would it traverse the oceans of the world. Its last voyage had come to an unglorious end. Some of those on board decided to leave. They gathered together their belongings and set off into a strange, unknown land. After several days of hardship, the passengers of the Tortius came upon a large, fertile valley. In this valley the humans, most of whom were colonists, decided to settle and build their first town.

A new era had begun.
