Quake Taunts

Quake is not just about skill. I've seen guys who had an amazing amount of talent, but little or no faith in themselves after having played online for the first time against seasoned pro's. I never did suffer from that problem myself, but there is a reason for this, and this advice I can impart upon you! You must go into each game not thinking, but knowing that you are invincible! Cockiness is an absolute necessity in this game. You're squaring off against several other human opponents, and to be honest, very few people are so good that they can just wade into a fight, vape six guys, and walk out without a scratch. Because of this fact, almost nobody will try.

I do.

This is very important for a very simple reason. If you go into this game understanding that you yourself are not going to get hurt playing it, you'll take some.... interesting....risks. I almost never feel fear while playing. You never should. Getting hit by a rocket in the head in real life would, of course, be rather lethal. In Quake, you can actually survive such a hit. Think about it. Why be scared?

As with many things in life, it's simply a matter of being willing to do what the other guy won't. I've charged into a room full of QCOD's guarding the Rocket Launcher respawn point with a shotgun and come out with my goal, the RL. The trick? Most guys do NOT expect anyone to charge such a superior force. You've got to be cocky and think you cannot die. If you're pretty good to begin with, this attitude can only help! Trust me....

You MUST charge in fast and hard!

Don't give them time to think, if indeed react!

Anyway, taunts. Taunts are a critical part of this cocky persona. A taunt is simply an insult hurled at an opponent employed to goad him into making a mistake. I use these more than most others do. I'm not sure why. My taunts involve too much invective to relate to you in this forum, but trust me, they're interesting. Hang out at Gooland III some time and see.
