George Clooney
Earlier today, Dave and some friends went to see the George Clooney film, Solaris. Stephanie was among the group. Dave phones Stephanie to discuss the film. What did she think of the trouble Clooney and the other spacemen got into? Critiques Stephanie, "The trouble was intimidating." Dave wants Stephanie to repeat what she said about the movie. Stephanie says, "It was something like Star Trek." That's not what Dave was looking for. Dave has to remind her.
You said it was Creep City. Stephanie denies this. Before hanging up, Dave asks Stephanie to have a question ready for George Clooney, and not a question like she had for Tom Cruise. Stephanie's Tom Cruise question: "Will you make anymore movies where you dance around in your underpants?"
Did you get the new People magazine? George Clooney was picked as the sexiest director alive. But that's not why its a sure-fire collectors item. Late in the issue we find the Sexiest Elderly Man on CBS. It was a tie between Dave and Morley Safer. Congratulations, Dave.
GEORGE CLOONEY: Dressed in all black. His new film, "Solaris", opens Wednesday. With Jack Hanna on the program a little bit later, Dave brings up the subject of pets. George says he has two dogs and a pig at home. He's had the pig for 15 years and is named Max. Dave and George discuss the living and eating habits of Max and how Max gets along with the dogs. It seems Max is leading a life of which I would be jealous. Eats, sleeps, hangs out, gets fat. I haven't done that since college. Dave and George spent a lot of time talking about Max. I wonder if when Max gets together with his buds if his friends ask a bunch of questions about George?
What's George been up to? He bought a Villa in Italy. He hopes it will force him to go on vacations. What's it like? George hasn't been there yet. The closest I can come to a story like that is I bought a shirt about a week and a half ago but I haven't worn it yet.
What is George doing for Thanksgiving? He's going to Chuck Barris' house. Ah yes, Chuck Barris. Best known to me as the host of "The Gong Show." I altered my schedule in college so I wouldn't have class from 1:00 to 1:30 just so I wouldn't miss an episode.
Chuck Barris wrote a book claiming to be a CIA hitman while hosting "The Gong Show." George is making a movie about it. Dave laughed and mused;
"It's odd. One day it's the Unknown Comic, the next day it's killing someone in South America.
It was great to hear Dave mention the Unknown Comic. The Unknown Comic on The Gong Show and Stan Cann on Carson were my showbiz idols in college.
Stephanie's question: After greeting and welcoming George Clooney, Stephanie asks, "We see a lot of your naked butt in the movie. Was that part of the story or just something you tossed in for the ladies?"
My guess is Chuck Barris was doing his CIA killing while Gary Owens was filling in as host of the Gong Show.
And that was our show for Tuesday, November 26th.
