October 5, 1997-New link to Archie Comics
Archie Comics, the publishers of the comic book Sonic the Hedgehog, has finally got a website promoting Sonic Comics. Not only do the have their standard fare of Archie comics, but they also have a site devoted to Sonic (and to Knuckles, who got his very own series recently). Since the site is relatively new, there is not that much info on there at the moment, (but I think that will change soon.) For the site address, find it in my hotlist section or click on this link: www.archiecomics.com
September 1997-Sonic Jam gets rave reviews in EGM
A 7.5, a 8.5, a 8.0, another 8.5, and Electronic Gaming Monthly's (a.k.a. EGM's) silver award rounded out the ratings for Sonic Jam in the reviews. (If you don't know what Sonic Jam's about, check out the story all the way on the bottom of this page.) I managed to snag myself a copy of this game, and it is GREAT! Even though the games in this set (the original Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles) may be considered old compared to other games (the latter 2 games came out in 1994), they still have a great replay value. One of the best parts, though, is the Sonic World section of the game, which gives a glimpse of how Sonic games may look like in the future. Be careful, though; this part is small and will leave you thirsty for more. New features are that Sonic can do his spin dash in Sonic 1, there are difficuty settings, and (this may be a rumor) that Knuckles is playable in the first Sonic game. The only problem with this game is that some of the sounds take some accessing from the CD, but that's only a problem from a nitpicker like me. So for those who traded in their Genesis (or it's just too dusty to play with), go ahead and get Sonic Jam. It's a great value for $49.99.

June/July 1997-Archie Comics, Inc. celebrates "Sonic the Hedgehog #50"
If you managed to snag your hands on Sonic the Hedgehog #50 (the American comic, not the European comic), be proud of yourself! This commerative issue features a gold-colored cover and a computer-rendered cover. But that's not all--every single artist who EVER worked on a Sonic comic got together and did different pages on Sonic. Dr. Robotnik is supposedly gone in this comic. But the question is, is Robotnik REALLY gone??? We'll find out soon enough... and thanks for making 50, Sonic!!
June 15, 1997-"Sonic Jam" and new game "Sonic R" unveiled at E3
Sonic fans were in excitement when Sonic Jam was shown at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is probably the biggest video game show in the U.S.). Also, a new Sonic game, "Sonic R", is in the works. This game is a Super Mario Kart-esque racing game for the Sega Saturn. It is rumored that the game will continue on the "Sonic Drift" saga that was on the SEGA Game Gear. (Sonic Drift was released for the Game Gear only in Japan; Sonic Drift 2, in both the U.S. and Japan about 1 1/2 years later). Stay tuned for more info on this...
May 20, 1997- New Sonic the Hedgehog Game "Sonic Jam"
A new Sonic game, Sonic Jam, is in he works. Created by the Sonic Team (led by Yuji Naka), this game will be the second time that Sonic's made his appearance on the Sega Saturn (Sonic 3D Blast was the first). The CD will be a compilation of several Sonic Games that were previously released for the Sega Genesis. The games are: Sonics 1, 2, 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. (The games will also feature the "lock-on" capability that you get when you put Sonic 2 or 3 in the Sonic & Knuckles cartridge slot.) So far, it is rumored that the game will be released around September.
