The
Sonic Digital Domain's SonicSite Awards: How
to nominate your or a friends' SonicSite to get an award!
So
you want to get a SonicSite award, huh?
Well,
there's a few rules that you've got to follow in order to receive that
award you or your friend may get.
Award
summary & criteria Here's
the summary of the awards:
A SonicSite award
is an award given to the SonicSite that is judged as being worthy of being
receiving this prized recognition. To do this, I review the SonicSite that
have recieved enough nominations for it to be judged. The top 5 nominated
sites (those sites with the most nominations by the owner of the site and
viewers of the site who wish to nominate a page) will be the sites that
will be judged. When I judge a site, I judge sites according to the
following criteria:
1. The
SonicSite is about Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Robotnik, the Freedom Fighters,
Knuckles the Echidna, or any other character featured in the video games
made by SEGA and/or the comic books made by Fleetway and Archie.
Self-made characters do NOT count!!
2. The
SonicSite I review has adequate content. This is important!
I will describe what I'm looking for in terms of content in the rules
section.
3. The
SonicSite has been frequently updated.
4. The
SonicSite has its graphics, text, and other components of the site are
arranged in a pleasing manner.
5. The
SonicSite I review must try to take in account the differences in browsers--for
example, if you have an imagemap to navigate your site, you must also have
text links to also navigate your site. This is because some people
have browser that do not support those type of graphics, or have graphics
turned off.
Each SonicSite
will be nominated using either a FormMail (described later) or by e-mail. To nominate your
SonicSite, you must follow the rules and nominate
according to the instructions--no exceptions!
Award
description: There are two
levels of "Best SonicSite" awards, the "Silver SonicSite", and a "Gold
SonicSite".
A site given a
"Silver SonicSite" award has been selected as the best SonicSite by following
the process decribed below, adhering to the criteria
above, is in no violation of the rules, and has, in my opinion and other
viewer's opinions, the SonicSite is worthy of recognition. These are like
the "Top SonicSite" recognitions given in the HotList in the former UltraSonic
Webpage! This is done monthly.
A site given a
"Gold SonicSite" award has gone further with the owner's SonicSite:
The owner of the site has done the requirements above, plus has received
more "Gold SonicSite" nominations by viewers of the site, or has been the
Most Improved SonicSite, which has done poorly in the past, but now shines
as being a great SonicSite. This is done in April (the anniversary
of my SonicSite), and is done yearly after that.
The
Rewards! What you have
been waiting for me to talk about--what rewards you get!

For each SonicSite
that receives a "Gold SonicSite" award, they receive these rewards:
The
Rules Just follow these
rules, and you can almost grab that award! It's not hard... Notice--rules were revised on
6/27/1998. 3 rules updated, 1 new rule added
1. No multiple
nominations (that means at or more than 3 in a row for the same site by the same person). If you think that you didn't
send the submission properly, you may send the nomination a second time for the same site, however if there are two nominations
for the same site by the same person, it is only counted as one. One person may send as many nominations as they desire, as long
as they are for different sites. However, if you send at or more than 3 nominations, all of your nominations for that site will be ignored if this happens.
2. When you
win the award, you must follow the instructions in the email!
3. A person
who has won the award cannot win it again until 1 year passes.
4. No sore
losers! Anyone who didn't win the award and floods me with hate e-mail
shall lose nomination privilages for 3 months! Besides, you
can try again for the award in the next month! Sorry, but a sore loser is much,
much worse than a regular loser.
5. Probably
the most important rule, you must have adequate content in order to win
the award. These are examples of pages that won't win:
A SonicSite
with only a list of links and no original content A
SonicSite with too many "bells & whistles" (read: too much Java/Javascript,
too many large graphics that take much too long to load, etc.) A
SonicSite with too many broken graphics and/or links (too many=more than
3) A
SonicSite with content that has to be rated PG-13 (fanfic authors in paticular) A
SonicSite with anything that is illegal A
SonicSite with only graphics, unless it's a fan art page A
SonicSite that is updated only every 4 months A
SonicSite that violates the webpage provider's Terms of Service
6. You don't
need graphics to win an award! If a site is text-only, but has great
content, that would win an award--no joke! Graphics don't always win the
award, content does! Put some cheats on there, maybe some fan-fiction,
even some music or news will do. In any case, give me a reason to
stick around your page!
7. Anyone that
takes the award graphic from my or a winner's page, sticks it on their
own page, and says "I won the SonicSite award" will be publically humiliated
on every Sonic mailinglist, group, and chat room that I can find, plus
will lose nomination privilages for exactly 3 months. Forget about
doing that, people; I keep records on who wins and who doesn't!
8. If you won
the award, but want to use a different graphic than what I have, it must
be approved by me before you can put it on your page.
9. The tECHIDNA
can--and will--take away a winners' SonicSite award for sites that do not
adhere to these regulations later on.
10. You may
challenge my ruling on awarding a site, but do it at your own risk!
Your nomination privilages may be in jeopardy if the challenge is something
like this: "I didn't win the award, you're stupid for not letting me
win!"
11. It's required
that you have fun! :)
12. If there are less than 2 different site nominations,
the winner will be determined by the tECHIDNA visiting people's SonicSites that are on the HotList.
The time is here--you
may now nominate the site of your choice, whether it's yours or somebody
else's site (make sure you have their URL handy).
Here's how you
do it: 1) Get the URL
of the site (don't forget the http://) 2) Use the appropriate
application to nominate the site.
There are two
ways to do this: use the FormMail (a form that sends the nomination
by e-mail to me) below, or use my e-mail address link. For FormMail:
Make sure you use the right one, there are two: one for "Silver SonicSite"
nomination, and one for "Gold SonicSite" nomination.
FormMail may
not be compatible with Netscape/ IE versions lower than 3.0 Use the email
method if you fall in this category.
3) Submit it,
and you're done! Remember,
you can nominate a site to each one only ONCE in a month!
