Chasing Eternity
Her heart was in her throat and she was shaking like a leaf, but after a night of crying her eyes out in complete heartbreak, the few hours sleep she had managed to get once her body had given in to exhaustion had made her feel significantly better.
Though it hurt more than anything ever had knowing that things between she and Jeff were seemingly over, and though she still was filled with the desire to go to him and make things right...
Hope filled Kalleasto McMahon.
At the Airport, the WWF plane waited for her, ready to fly her away from Greenwich, Connecticut and deliver her post haste to where ever her heart desired. And her heart desired New York, because, hopefully, by the time she arrived in New York...
Love would be waiting for her.
She wasn’t sure how insane it might actually be, how likely it was that she would be turned away...
But Matt Hardy would be hosting the Raw party at WWF New York and Kalli was dead set determined that she would be there to meet him.
She had left notes on the bed in her bedroom. One to her Mom and Dad to tell them where she was going and that she would see them soon. One to Krissy with only one word written in it, ‘Thankyou.’ Another was for Heidi to explain why she had gone on without her, and that her parents would give her a place to stay until Kalli returned...
It was selfish, she supposed, just running off like she was.
But sometimes you had to run.
And if things worked out the way she prayed they would, she would be running into open arms.
“Where do you think you’re going, young lady?”
Kalli nearly dropped her bag in fright as she whirled to face the voice that had come from behind her. “Paul!” She exclaimed in a shaking whisper. “Don’t creep up on people like that! Damn, you scared me!” He grinned and she rest her bag down, her hands resting on her hips, “And what do you think you’re doing stalking around the hallways of the McMahon Estate at 5am?”
“I’m still in early morning mode from my rehab,” he explained before smiling softly, “And I heard you walking down the hall, club foot.”
“Oh.” She managed a sheepish little grin, “Sorry.”
Paul motioned to the bag now resting by her side, “And where are you off to? I thought you were going to stay home a while.”
She shrugged half-heartedly, “I was...”
“But?” She gave him a look and he grinned, “You were gonna say it. I can tell these things about you.”
The McMahon Heiress shook her head slightly, still smiling softly, “Well... I was, but... There’s something I need to know.”
The man better known as The Game nodded, “You’re going after Matt, aren’t you?”
“Wouldn’t you?” she asked softly. In response his nocked an eyebrow at her as if to say ‘I’m not that kind of guy’ and she giggled, “If you were me, that is.”
“I guess I would,” he told her, his concern for her in his voice, “If I knew it was right.”
Kalli looked away a little. She wasn’t sure if she actually knew anything any more. But... She looked up again, her eyes meeting his, her voice a testament in itself, “It feels right, Paul. Above everything else running through my heart these days, I can tell you all I know is that it feels right.” She shrugged again, this time worriedly, “All I can do is hope Matt wants me.”
Paul laughed softly, “Honey, I don’t know anyone that hasn’t wanted you at some point in time.”
Kalli blushed, “When I was 16 years old and I used to turn up at WWF events after school in that tiny little skirt and those knee high socks maybe...” She chuckled embarrassedly, “But I’m not that girl anymore.”
“Don’t I fucking know it!” He exclaimed playfully and Kalli, the colour in her cheeks deepening all the more, leant over to punch him in the arm. “Hey!”
She wagged a finger at him, “You’re a bad, bad person, Paul Levesque. I just want you to know that.”
“I do.” He grinned, “And the way I remember it, you used to be too.” Leaning over to ruffle her perfectly sitting hair, he laughed when she tried to slap his hands away, gasping at the mess he was making of her long locks. “You certainly have mellowed, Kiddo.”
Kalli slapped his hand painfully and the WWF Superstar yanked it away as she told him, “That’s just rich coming from you, Mr. Devoted Husband of the Year, 2001.”
“Like you’re any better, Little Miss Chasing Eternity.”
The McMahon Heiress smiled gently at this, musing to herself, “Chasing Eternity.”
Paul locked his eyes on her dreamy face, “Well aren’t you?”
“Yeah,” she whispered, pondering a few moments before going on, “I think I might be.”
The emotion in the girl’s eyes at this caught Paul and he asked gently, “You really do love that boy, don’t you?” She nodded and he smiled, stepping forward and pulling her into his arms, hugging her tightly, “Then go get him, Kalli. And once you’ve got him,” he tilted her face up to meet his, their eyes locked together, “Don’t make the same mistake again.”
To the average bystander, that comment may very well have been assumed to be about Jeff. But Kalli knew...
Her face fell, “That wasn’t a mistake, Paul.”
“I know that now,” he smiled gently, “Every time I look at Lindsey I know that. But just...” All seriousness he told her, “If you love Matt, hold on to him.”
Kalli smiled sincerely at this, “If he loves me, Paul...” Her smile deepened, love dancing in her eyes, “I never will.”
The Game grinned, pressing his lips to her forehead, “Then you better get your ass into gear, Kiddo.” He turned her around, slapping her ass and telling her, “Go on. Get outta here.”
But the girl whirled back to him, her excitement in her eyes as she leapt on him in a huge hung. “I kinda love you, Pauly.” She kissed his cheek and then pulled away from him, snatching up her bag and hurrying down the hall, obviously forgetting that it was 5am and that the majority of the household would still be sleeping.
He chuckled as she disappeared from sight, “Go get him, Kalli.”
Shaking his head softly, saying a silent little prayer that his old friend would get exactly what she desired most, he turned and head back down to Lindsey’s bedroom, opening the door and stepping inside. He hopped into bed, snuggling down beside her when the girl start to stir.
“Paul?” She whispered sleepily.
Pulling her into his arms he whispered back, “Yeah, baby?”
“Where’d you go?”
He smiled softly, his wife’s eyes were still closed and she was barely able to talk for the sleep still trying to hold on to her. “I just saw your sister off.”
Suddenly a little more awake she opened her eyes, yawning as she asked, “Which one?”
“Kalli.”
“Kalli!” She exclaimed, now wide awake as she leapt up in the bed, sitting beside him, “Where is she going? And without saying goodbye...”
He touched her face, gently tilting her gaze to lock on his, “She didn’t say goodbye to anyone. I just happened to hear her leaving.” He smiled gently, “She’s going after Matt.”
Surprised, Lindsey stammered, “She is?”
“Uh huh.” Seeing his wife was no closer to laying back down in the bed, Paul sighed, yanking her into his arms to cuddle her lovingly. “You’re upset she didn’t say goodbye.”
Lindsey nodded, her voice soft and hurt, “That’s the second time...”
Paul sighed, “Baby, its nothing personal. Kalli just... She has her issues right now, you know?” He told her tenderly, “As soon as she’s where she needs to be, I’m thinking we’ll get our Kalli back.”
The girl looked up at her husband, “And where does she need to be, Paul?”
“In Matt Hardy’s arms.” He grinned.
Lindsey’s face fell a little, “It really is over between her and Jeff, isn’t it?”
The Game nodded sadly, “I think so.”
“I thought...” Lindsey looked sadly up at her husband, “I thought they would always be together.” She sighed, closing her eyes, “It makes you wonder sometimes what forever really is.”
Paul’s eyes locked on her slightly pained features, “Linds, open your eyes,” he said, gently commanding. She did as he asked and he told her softly, “I’ll show you forever.”
He leant down, pressing his lips to hers in a tender kiss that melted her the moment it began.
He would show her forever...
But would Matt show Kalli?
Paul may never really know. But he could hope...
Succumbing to the pleasure of Lindsey laying lovingly in his arms, their sweet kiss intensifying, the last rational thought Paul Levesque could muster slipped away from him.
Please God, let that girl get what she wants.
